LEDs in our stock socket sucks, I have gone thru about 5 of them already. I am trying something completely new, I am going to have an LED board equiped with 8 superflux LEDs, to get rid of that crappy 194/168 socket. I may have to cut the bumper a bit to make the plastic panels fit. I will make a new thread and post pics when im finished, hopefully b4 the end of this yr.

you can also try installing a white cathode instead:

https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...athode+license

some people say its too bright, but its great for getting that white color from the Lexus license plate LEDs.

superbrightleds.com has a 5 LED wide angle bulb that comes very close to the Lexus. I have it on my car (sorry no pics yet) and it looks very good. Just make sure to select the "Cool White" option for the bulb color. Check out this link and scroll down until you see WLED-x5 wedge base bulbs. http://www.superbrightleds.com/mini-wedge.html Hope this helps.

These are lousy quality pics because they're taken with my crappy camera phone but I think they still illustrate how good this LED I bought works.

and one more..

I have a Supernova Super White bulb from autolumination.com in my set up. Only $7.99 for a bulb. Although the only choice on their webpage for the Supernova is the 194 bulb, it will also fit in the stock 168 bulb socket for the license plate light on our 2nd gen TL's. Here's the link: http://autolumination.com/194.htm

Here's a photo of my license plate with the stock bulb:

And here it is with the Supernova Super White 194 bulb.

I don't know why some of you guys have LEDs that go out so quickly??? I thought these things are supposed to last pretty much forever; I've had a PIAA LED license plate light for years. I have the same bulb in my doors and map lights; just need to do the PITA glove box light. Otherwise, no problems here. Good luck!

You mean the link on where to get the Supernova? Yes, it's in my original post, but here it is again: http://autolumination.com/194.htm

It's about 1/3 of the way down on their very long webpage for the 194 bulbs.

Got mine yesterday, going to put it on tonight, question, do you think it would be wise to clean the inside of the license plate light cover???? I'm thinking yes...

Hitlayers,

Yep, I suggest cleaning it. Dish soap and water, then dry with towel. Makes the white light look even better. I hope you think the lighting looks good after the bulb swap.
