Granted, I used to be an aircraft engine mechanic, I've never done something so advanced with cars as swapping my engine and transmission. It was challenging, but as far as labor goes, it really only took me two full days of labor. The rest was pulling my hair out in figuring out what the fuck was wrong with my car. Turned out the timing was off. Found this out AFTER pulling the turbo. It's cool, my gasoline bill thanks me.

Upgrade to A2 with a 5 or 6 speed auto Trans?

Ok, so I'm starting to visualize a much bigger picture. Here's what it might look like:
Pick up an A2 engine, have it honed and stroked with a J35 crank, rings, & rods. Install 08 TL S cams, & valves, and go with low compression pistons to pair up with the CT Supercharger that I just picked up used (sweet!).

I would then want to bolt up a 5 or 6 speed auto transmission to the rebuilt J32 A2 engine. Does this sound like something that would work in my 99 TL?

As for intake manifolds, what might be the best upgrade option for that?

the best intake manifold would be nva-av6 dual throttle body intake manifold. Next best is the 09 tl intake manifold but get ported runners and a larger throttle body.

Keep the type-s pistons. You wont need to lower compression. The only auto you can hook up to it is the craptastic 5 speed. Intake, the 09

I dont think the Comptech MP62 SC could deliver enough boost for dual tb's. Now if you upgraded the blower to the MP90 then i bet it would be

You need the original ct jack shaft. After that most every thing needs to be custom fabbed.

I love this forum! Ok, it looks like the J35 MDX bottom end paired with an 08 TL-S pistons and top end are the way to go and it will be a 5 speed automatic trans.

The next question is what year J32 A2 engine and 5 speed trans is the best choice for swapping out with my 99 TL's J32 A1 and 4 speed? The 00, 01, 02, or 03?

My big concern is the computer connectivity and compatibility, sensors, etc. You know the technical stuff that could blow this whole project up?

The biggest pain in the but is you have to get the car to think its a 2000 plus so you need a new computer/ ecu ( get a type s) and a whole bunch of wiring but I'm not sure which harnesses. J32a2 is only 02/03 and I would get an 06-07 Honda accord v6 5spd transmission. I beleive the best pistons to use if you want higher compression are the rl pistons

Right on. Thanks Stephen00TL. I have an uncle that owns a salvage yard here in N. Cali. I will look into the price of a used 03 TL-S J32 A2 engine and the price of a used 07 Accord V6 5 speed trans. I personally am not interested in the 6 speed swap. I prefer an auto trans. I'm getting lazy as I get older I guess.

If these two price out well enough, I might just buy them and have the engine rebuilt with the the performance parts suggestions I've picked up here. Another member said the harness and ECU are a plug and play swap. If all this checks out, this could get pretty fun.

Stephen, I threw this one out in another thread and wanted to post it here to be sure you saw it cuz I'd really like to get your feedback:

Today I located a 2003 TL-S engine for $500 and a 2007 Accord V6 5 speed transmission for $975. The engine has 180k on it and the trans has 110k. I'm not worried about the mileage on the engine because I will have it rebuilt before installing it (if I pull the trigger on this swap), and after the input from other members I am confident that the engine swap will go fine as long as I swap the ECU and engine harness. My concerns now lie with the transmission swap.

One of our members has installed a 2006 Accord 5 speed transmission in his 2000 TL-S with success [that's you Stephen!]. The question I have is will the newer trans be a drop in for the 1999 TL? I would hate to find out that the 99 has some different configurations where the driveshaft meets the transmission. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The only thing is that is tricky is the 99 tl was almost a whole other car in itself. I Have tried looking where people have swapped 5 speed autos in a 99 but I haven't found anything. Everything I see listed for axles and everything else is listed for 99-03 Acura tl so I don't see why you would run into problems there. I would compare part numbers for a 99 and a2000 for transmission mounts, axles. Etc. if they are the same it will drop right in with no problems. I only have a base model tl and engine for now.
