High Flow Cat Reviews
A couple questions for those who have HFCs.
Change in exhaust sound?
Small HP gain?
Are you satisfied with a HFC?
I am seeing a lot of mixed reviews on HFCs. Some say they do nothing and just break apart, others say that it improves sound quality and offers a small power gain. My main question is, is it worth it?

as far as hp gains...not much...i forgot which mag it was but they tested OEM cats n test pipes...n the conclusion was is it really worth state ref for +3hp? lol

i have a ws2, rt hiflow cat an intake resonator delete. i think there are small gains. not a huge difference in pikup but slightly noticeable. i like mine and either way, a new cat, high flow or not, will flow better than an old stock one. an import tuner did a test on cats vs. test pipes. they concluded the test pipe loses 1-2hp overall vs the cat. but that was on an old teggy or sumthin not a TL.

I have he XLR8 HFC which has the 2.5 inch diameter pipe and I definitely think it added more that 3hp, more about 7-10hp, IMO. When matched with headers and exhaust it really makes a difference. Love the sound, I have apexi ws2, (one of the og's around here for getting ws2's). It gave it a more aggressive (snappier) tone, couldn't be happier!!!!

2003TL-S... could you post a video capturing the exhaust sound?.. i've got I/H and the WS2 and im debating whether to get a HFC or remove the resonator on the exhaust, but i don't want to go through with it if i'm not going to like the sound

i don't kno bout 7-10, but i put my hfc and ws2 on at the same time and i could notice a difference in pickup for the better. tone is nice! sounds deep and throaty but not like fountain powerboat tone. no resonance. i think its a good investment and im very satisfied with mine.
plus it comes with a cool sticker

you will like the sound. i wouldn't remove the resonator on the exhaust. ws2 has a fairly big resonator for a reason.. it needs one. and iv tried to record it, but every time you do, you don't capture the sound right. it sounds sooo much better in person.

dont be so doubtful.
pipe diameter has more to do with gains than cell count. the stock cat is a bottleneck when u have headers. a 2.5 inch cat removed bottleneck restriction and has a better cell count so 7-10 hp is very likely

Hey Dave, you said you put the HFC with your WS2 at the sametime? What if what you hear from your exhaust now is what i have? my camera doesnt pick up the nice bass it emits as well.. How far are you from Baltimore? i was just there with my TL-S...
Phee, it makes sense that a HFC is better if you have headers.. any other decent brands beside Random Technology?

sound yes...hp gains rnt noticeable...make sure u have no xhaust leaks or else ull b just like every other civic out there if u know what i mean...the rasp will come in around 3500-4000 rpms...it wont happen if u slowly accelerate

yes i did. and i don't believe it would be the exact same thing cuz i have a hfc an u don't, but u also have a different engine than i do as well as headers.. theres many variables in play thats gunna make it sound semi different from mine and possibly yours. all im sayin is that mine sounds str888, an my pikup is slightly quicker. not by much, just slightly. you probably wont feel a difference because of your headers but for me, going from an all stock exhaust to my set-up, i can feel a difference in pickup. and i live like 10 mins on a good day 20 on a bad one, from bmore. if ur not diggin RT, go with excelerates cat. i got mine RIGHT before he came out with his, and his has bigger piping i believe so personally if i had the choice id go with his, if your gunna do this mod.

got a rt 2.5" high flow cat just like 2003 tl-s.... def a gain in hp, i have headers, and full atlp catback so when paired def a good 5-10 hp gain... car feels alot smoother.. and you can feel the restriction is gone.. air flows ALOT better... def a noticeable sound difference... sound deepr wit a slight rasp when cold... alot more badass heres a vid with my ALTP's before and after the cat

damn you all... i wanna grab the XLR8 cat also but first I am getting headers this weekend!!!..
SHOULD I HOLD OUT AND DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME???
Or can i just install the cat after the headers are in without undoing my headers at all?
ANYONE KNOW???? plzz chime in

if you want to save time do them both at the same time.. if you want to notice the difference for each mod, do one or the other first..
just remember to reset the ECU after the mods!!!
(pull the #13 chip "clock reset" for 1 min, its located on the passenger side of the dashboard)

nothing but good reviews from me
easy install, more aggresive sound (a cool whine kicks in at 3k, i pretend its a supercharger ) and definitely a power increase
terrific mod for only $300

k i just installed the CT headers and it's amazing how much more power I got. I cannot begin to think the cat could open up even more power??? seriously??
DAmn i wish my cat was crap. but it looks brand new.
then i'd buy this mod for sure
