Flame Thrower :flamewar:

I wonder if our cars run rich enough, along with my straight pipe and high octane gas to make a flame, with a spark plug powered by a coil welded into the tail pipe without any additional fuel injection?? My grandpa fills my head with tails of blue flames emitting from muscle car tail pipes at night as cruise through the night time hwys of el paso. My exhaust stinks of unburned strong exhaust and I would like to do my part for the environment by not letting unburned emmitions seep into the atmosphere, so anyone speculate, if this can be done without adjusting the timming, or any other modification other than sticking a coil powered spark plug 3 to 6 inched from the exhaust tip??? anyone done it?

Even if there was enough raw fuel in your exhaust (which i dont think there would be) the flame would be very small, you would need to add a fuel source to make them bigger.

Its different on hotrodders (which actually have far more power than imports). Its hard to explain, just the point is there is a difference on the mods you can do to both muscle and tuner cars..

FlacoJ, If you want to get rid of tailgaters I would suggest installing HID Reverse lights with a switch (a fellow 3g Member has accomplished this). That'll be good enuff. Although be smart when using these.

you would not need higher octane gas to do it

x2 in proably not enough raw fuel in the exhaust, so an external source would be needed,
and if he wanted to shoot the flame further, he should go down to one muffler instaed of duals (for higher velocity out the tip)

and i still would think it is ish, even if hotrodders have been doing it a long time, and even then they have an excuse were their engines are carburatered, so they run rich easily, where our's there is no excuse for them running extremely rich (except for race cars though)

not possible without routing a fuel line towards the end of the exhaust, along with a spark plug or some kind of ignition. and get ready to have ur bumper start melting from the heat

Our cars do not run rich. As a matter of fact, they run very lean.

ethier way it would need additional fuel added to the exhaust

thats what i was afraid of, even though i have a single exhaust pipe, no cat, and headers, I researching how I could possible get that much uncombusted fuel, and in theory, maybe it would work if I engine braked down from vtec in 2nd gear or so. In my old straight pipe steup i had a rasp when i held it in 2nd and let the car wind down from a high rpm, as seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6elEBaobrw, and i want The Active Ignition method of producing an exhaust flamethrower involves installing and wiring the kit properly and the igniting the unburnt fuel. This kit works best on vehicles without a catalytic converter or with an older converter. Vehicles with large motors, power modifications etc. will produce good flames... often even with a catalytic converter. Using higher octane fuel can also make an impact on the size of the flame - as will altering the fuel mixture so that you are running rich. This kit will cause less wear and tear on the motor/exhaust

If you want to do your part for the environment you might as well just put the stock exhaust back on.

I don’t want to add any extra accelerants, i don't care if the flame is huge, I just want to be the only TL in my neck of the woods with this mod, if I can do it without taking off the fuel pressure regulator, or mixing race fuel

i believe our cars cut the fuel when they hit the rpm, unlike some cars where they cut the spark. so u wouldnt have any unburnd fuel when u hit the rev limitter.

best way would be too get a full standalone ecu, then have it go pig rich when you let off the throttle, to get that flame like race cars (or get the computer reflashed )

stock wise; the car completely shuts off the fuel when you let off the throttle

like what you said (right before my last post) about some cars killing the spark, i think our cars do that too, but only as a secondary kill (in case it does rev higher [like 500 rpm above fuel cut], or what not), in that it prefers to kill fuel first for emission purposes (no raw fuel into the exhaust)

but yeah that will make the exhaust extremely rich too by cutting the spark, when you hit the rev limiter, or let off the throttle for decel mode

also i was thinking making it rich during decel was more for the throttle response on race cars, but i thought about it, it still does not have any air for it, so it is not for better response,

but for the rev limiter it would be better for it just not to fire instead of it going completely lean and destroying the engine

you don't need a full standalone, just get emanage and goto fuel injection factors and do something like 290/250-200 and you'll run richer

fuel injection is still dueable though, but you have to intentionally indroduce raw fuel into the exhaust (especially with stock ecu programing) to get a flame, and ignite it
