Cost to paint Wings West lip kit?
What would be a good estimate for a paint job on a Wings West lip kit? I saw that they come unprepped and unpainted, so if you can break it down for me.. how much would it cost just to paint the kit if it was already prepped? And how much would it cost to prep it?
Also.. is there a way I can prep it my self to save money?
Thanks in advanced.

wow.. that's close to how much the kit costs.. lol..
I don't need them to do any installing for me though.. I'm going to do the installing by my self, just need the cost of the paint job (and prep job if necessary)
Thanks.

I did mine myself with the rattle can. I was going to paint it for now till i get my sides and rear, since I couldnt wait. But the paint job looks good so I may just keep it. But I did put a lot of time into it, wet sanded a lot between the layers and used SIMS clear coat and not the cheap stuff. Total was $50 for paint and all the sand paper. Full kit probably would be around 200+. So I would go to a shop if you have a full kit.

Yeah, Props to you bro, I can't believe you actually did it with a spray can.. lol I've scan over it for about 200 times now for mistakes and I can't tell..
Anyways.. I didn't know patience could be plural.. guess you do live up to your name..
haha I'm J.K.
Anyways.. I just met a guy with a 99 TL with a Wings West body kit.. he wants to part it out for me for 300 bucks. It looks like it's in good condition(it is POLYURETHANE.. what's the worst that can happen to it?). But yeah, I just gotta take another look at them closely before I fork over the 3 bills. It's already painted what looks to me like NBP.. so I'm going to have to prep it to be painted I assume..
What would I need to get it ready to be repainted WDP? Specific help would be good.. and a list of supplies.. Thanks in advanced..

^ Don't bother trying to paint WDP yourself without a decent airbrush kit... and even if you purchased an airbrush I would suggest having tons of practice before trying it out.
WDP spray cans will not match your car; trust me, I bought a WDP paint kit (comes with 3 spray cans: base, pearl and clear coat) from 4 different websites and none of them matched.
You should really get it painted professionally.

yeah I plan on getting it painted professionally, but I'd rather do the prepping for the paint by my self than letting them charge me an unnecessary 300-400 bucks just for prepping when I can do it my self.
I heard something about sanding to prep it for painting.. I just need some specifics.

thanks for the fob comments dude. Appreciate that. If its already been painted then you can sand down to the primer and all they have to do is paint. Cuts down on labor hours. If you do go this route, when you sand down the paint, you'll know you hit the primer when the dust starts getting white. The key to prep is to make sure its even. If you have even a small scratch it will show up on when you paint. So if you prep your own and take it to get painted, they wouldnt care and just spray it as is. good luck man

Thanks alot for your help fobstylez, but do you know what kind of sand paper I will need? And I also saw something about working up to a higher grit number.. like 800 then 1500 or something like that..
And I was J.K. about the fob comment haha I had to edit my posts too.. sometimes my finger just like to bring out my inner fob and start to put useless "s"'s at the end of every word. So made me giggle a bit when I saw PATIENCES =)

I suggest starting off by starting off with a fine grit sand paper 800 or above, and then rinse. You can either resand with extremely fine grit (1200-1500) if you think theres a thick enough layer of primer after you wet sanded with 800 OR you can apply another coat, then wet sand with 800 --> Rinse/dry --> wetsand with 1200-1500 grit sand paper.
Remember to let it completely dry in between coats and to sand gently/evenly. Gluck.

wow, thanks bravedemon. The instructions were very specific, I like that. I'll take some pictures as soon as the guy is done parting out for me.
OMG I'm so excited.. this is the biggest thing I've done to my TL since changing the oil and brake pads LOL.
Who knows sooner or later I'll be doing a 6 spd conversion.. hehe
