AEM V2 vs. All Others

This goes out to all the Tl-p owners. Im looking into getting a CAI this weekend and you guys always seem to help me with your experiences with aftermarket parts. I've been looking at the AEM V2 which seems to be the best possible choice but its cost 80 more bucks than most others. So what do you think? And if you have a V2 do you think that it was worth the extra money? Any comments welcome.

Personally, I went with a custom 2 piece intake. I really don't see the point in paying brand name prices for basically a metal tube with a filter on the end. I know they did a lot of R&D to get it just right, but I think you could make one or get a exhaust shop to make you one for a lot cheaper. Just use a good filter and make sure everything is air tight.

I love my v2, the sound is amazing. I bought it used for a good price so it was a no brainer for me, but i wouldn't pay the price new. Look around for a used one first.

V2 and loving it.
The only other intake I would consider buying would be an Icebox. I actually really debated between the two. But went with the V2 for the deeper growl and better looks. Bought it from Excelerate w/ some Comptech exhaust... Don't cheap out on $80. I generally don't buy used things, especially for a car, I'd pay for new just for the piece of mind. But an intake is simple enough, so long as you have all the parts and they aren't cracked. Get yourself a new filter. Nice K&N would suffice.

^^^ I'm on the bandwagon with this one, I bought mine brand new for $150 (luckily on craiglist), I love it, its a bit noisy with the windows down and stereo off and while idling, but I got used to it after using it for about 2 weeks.

If I were you in this situation, I wouldn't mind paying $80 for something that was made exculsively for the TL-Ps, where type-s owners cant have a chance to own and use the V2 on their cars.

that was mine

I have to say the day I took it off I could definitely tell the difference in the lack of power when the engine really got high in the RPMs. now I know an intake wont make a night and day difference but I could tell just as much of a difference when I added the V2 as to when I put the headers on...so in my book the V2 is the way to go

i was just looking at some dyno charts and a 2003 accord v6 A/T gained 18.7HP and 15.1 ft-lbs @6500rpms

and a 98 accord v6 A/T made 9.7HP and 10.1 ft-lbs @5000rpms

i guess its safe to asume the same type of gains because the accord is so simliar

I think I read somewhere that the AEM V1 made 8.0hp and the V2 made 9.8hp.

I read that it wasn't that big of a difference from V2 compared to the rest. I noticed a decent difference from the V2 from stock, but it wasn't like super significant, so I really doubt you'll be able to notice the difference between other intakes. V2 makes great noise, and if you can wait it out try buying one used off the private sales. I got it nearly half price: $165 shipped used ftw.

sounds good

I put mine in last night. It sounds great at around 4k rpms. Haven't noticed a difference yet, but I can't go faster than 30 mph on base. I'll see tomorrow when i take the 2 hour drive home!

i got mine today, sounds AWSOME, not as loud as my short ram but a lot deeper and smoother, i do have a semi loud hum at idle that i did not have with my short ram.
has anyone tried the "optional power adder" where you move the IAT sensor to spot on the intake before the TB? and i defnilty feel a diference over my short ram, i was never able to spin the wheels when i stop it from a start expesive but worth it IMO

im going with Comptech Icebox. High Gains, And there is sound only at high RPMs which i like. I dont want a 4 door sedan sounds like a race car. (just my opinion) So thats my reason to go with Comptech Icebox.
I would also recommend that as an intake and our vendor who sells it (Accellerator)

The AIM V2 is supposedly one of the best out there right now. I really like mine. I didn't have an issue with the fogs either.

I have the Weapon R Secret Weapon Short Ram. It cost me about $260 for it. The intake is dual induction and sounds great but the cold air will still give a little more performance than the short ram.

An intake is an intake. all it is is a pipe with a filter like KSuchdeve said. As long as you have a AEM dryflow or a K&N and the piping for your intake is the same size or bigger than the TB than it should be just as good as a Name brand. The V2 gets bigger when it bends but that doesnt matter when your TB is only so big. so what the point of the bigger pipe? Sound and Looks. F*** spending 350 on an Intake. why spend So much money on a piece of aluminum.
And to another point, my theory is that the Comptech works better as a CAI because Metal intakes get as hot as your engine bay because your TB and IM are connected to your engine block Metal-Metal absorbing all the heat so the Intake gets Hot and your engine just sucks hot air once warmed up. Metal would work best if you use Thermoblock spacers because they are not aluminum so your IM and TB wont absorb as much heat so your CAI wont get as hot and would work to its full potential sucking up cold air and maximizing HP. Comptechs is Plastic solving this problem, but the IceBox is so ugly. So I say just go on ebay and Buy a 50 dollar CAI and get a AEM Dryflow and buy a Underdrive Pully with the extra cash you saved. and enjoy the new feel of your car.

station, your going around reviving year old threads lol i guess i'll join in

I got my V2 off the black market used for 125 shipped i'd say shop around and be patient cuz 300 is way to much to pay for it, its probably the only part i'd buy used for the car since it is only a metal pipe, but it does sound great and that hum is just normal i guess since it happens with mine to. i dont really mind though, if you've got the radio on u shouldnt be able to hear it
