99TL Fuel economy suggestion
 

Hello, I have a 99 TL and the miles per gallon that the car gets is slowly going down.

Any suggestions for budget mods that might help with fuel economy?

ngk iridium ix, air filter, seafoam, tire pressure, etc

clean the EGR port--gets plugged and cars runs poorly

based on the experience of our megamoderator fsttyms1- with 350,000 MILES!! and climbing on an 00
every 75kmiles the intake manifold needs to come off and clean the egr ports out with a wire coat hanger and solvent/carb cleaner

call acura to see if yours was ever done under recall to install a thing in the egr passage-99s only

they only do it once then its on you
same thing for 99 ignition switch- see if thats been done on recall

how are your spark plugs? 100k is acura dream on longevity
60-70kmiles and they are pretty worn out- enough to merit replacement with the correct ngk iridium spark plug
platinum was stock- iridium= gen3 uses them stock, and its an upgrade for us

also use 91/93 oct
 

using 91/93 octane with lucas fuel treatment will significantly increase fuel economy. recently on a trip from upstate ny 2 northern va i ave about 33-35 mpg. not bad for a 99 w/ 190k. even after city traffic i almost got 500 miles from a full tank. ok 468. i will attempt to clean my ports after reviewing the diy posts
