Your choice in my situation?
I am getting an AEM CAI. I live in Seattle where it rains a lot. If you were me, would you get a by-pass valve? It robs HP, so why not just get a K&N air filter instead for 3-4 HP increase? Would the CAI w/ by-pass be equivilant to a SRI in HP? Help me out guys. I can't decide.
CAI and SRI both give the same power at high rpms...but I do believe the CAI will give you more low end power since it's already drawing cooler air to the engine. As for the Bypass-valve, unless you plan on driving your car through a lake...don't worry about your CAI sucking up water.

I've read countless hours on this board about by-pass valves by searching from older posts and no one has ever hydro-locked their engine, but it rains like a B***h here in Seattle. So i want some input.
So SRI HP = CAI HP at high end?
and CAI HP > SRI HP at low end?

The amount of water it would take for you to mess up your engine would be enough for a normal person to not ever try to drive through in the first place. Dont get the by pass valve if you are going to get a CAI.

Honestly, if I were you, i would just go with a Short Ram, and remove the resonater box from the driver side wheel well. It will give you a straight path of cold air coming into the engi9ne, and eleiminate the threat of water getting into the engine. you could also just put an Icebox around the filter in order to eliminate any warm air going into the intake

I want my car to sound mean, and I heard that the icebox sounds close to stock. It's also $100 more than AEM.
So am I safe as long as I don't drive through puddles. So driving on the highway when it rains hard won't get the filter wet?

They don't even make a SRI for the Type-S.
Now I guess i'm deciding on whether to get a by-pass or not. What happens when your engine gets hydro-locked? You need to get a new engine?

For the engine to get hydolocked the whole filter would need be submerged into water, which means the water level must be up to the middle of your bumper. Im pretty sure you wouldn't go through an area that was flooded like that.

TINT no question...and that's speaking from experience.
