Are you using synthetic engine oil?
How many of you using synthetic engine oil?It is 4 times more expensive than regular oil, does it really worth it?My TL has 36000km,is it a right time to switch?Which brand should I go for?
I just hit 50k on my can and going to switch to synthetic. It cost about 4.50 a bottle. I'm planning on using Mobil 1.
I think its worth it switching to synthetic. you can feel the differents once you change out our oil.

i heard that for the first couple rounds of oil change stick with the non-synthetic, then switch to synthetic for good. i don't know exactly why, but probably that's what i would do since i get free oil change for the first 3 yrs anyway.
ive been using mobil 1 synthetic for a while now. i guess its nice and all....but dont bother with it. just change it every 3000k and let acura put in whatever they use
if your going to change the oil by yourself, it wont cost too much more to use synthetic. but if you have the dealer change it, and you bring in your own oil, its gonna cost a ton
(though i still change my own oil with mobil 1 every 3750k)

lol, the first time i took my car to my dealer..they said it'll be 44 bucks for a freaking synthetic engine oil change..so i just smiled and left.

I have close to 29000km on mine. I use Canadian Tire's Formula 1 5w30 synthetic with honda filter. It costs about $22 for 4 litre jug, but i buy the stuff on sale or use lots of canadian tire money to shave costs even lower. Since i change the oil myself, it's no big deal in costs as a regular oil change at Acura would cost about $29 for non synthetic stuff. I change oil at about every 5000km.
No...i don't intend to bring the car to Jiffy Lube or any other fast oil change place.

I use it! I use Mobil 1 too! Try burning regular oil, then synthetic oil. The regular oil will change real fast wereas the synthetic oil will stay golden colour. I saw this on a program that tried to determine if synthetic oil was better or not. I don't remember what the final recommendation was though, as I had already been using synthetic already.
All good points, but is the price worth it?
I have about 22,000 miles and up for antoher change in 500 and I've switched to synthetic within my 15k mile checkup. I've just ordered up another 5 quarts of RedLine 5w20 and it totalled up to 42.05 with shipping at 5.57, so just for the oil alone, you're gonna spend $48 (but this IS the best though). I called up my dealer and they quoted me $29 for an oil change, and 4 bucks off if I bring in my own oil. Now do the math, if you dont change the oil manually like I do, then every oil change is gonna run you up to 75 bucks every 7,500 miles. If you dont do synthetic and use whatever the dealer puts in (probably non-synthetic 5w30) then you will spend $30 every 3,750 miles. If you compare them side by side you will be spending 7 more dollars per 3,750 on synthetic.
Pros:
1) Best possible oil for your engine (especially if you run it hard).
2) You save time due to less oil changes.
Cons:
1) You will run it for twice as long (including the oil filter).
2) May not be the best economical choice.

I changed my oil at 3000miles using dino oil, then just the other day I changed to Redline synthetic 5W-20 at 6000 miles. Was it too soon for me to switch to synthetic?....I don't know for sure, but I don't think it's gonna hurt. Besides, between the freezing temperature I'm living in and my need to change the oil (cold temps thickens the oil which is not something you prefer at start-up), I just said what the hell
Now they say you should not change your oil to synthetic too soon, to give the engine more of a chance to break in..but if that's so why do some cars come straight out of the factory come filled with synthetics.
If I rebuilt my own Cleveland small block, I'd probably use dino oil for a while, but on a factory manufactured modern day engine, I don't think it's as important.
Now using Redline, which I consider to be the best oil, is a bit ridiculous @ almost $8 a quart
but my motor see's a lot of high rev's and I'm just nuts when it comes to the oil in my cars.
Using high synthetic oils also allows you to go beyond the typical 3000 mile changes.
They have a higher resistance to the typical breakdown (like dino oil) of all the essential "ingredient's" that makes oil do what it's supposed to do. Redline tells me I can go 10,000miles+ (Don't remember exact miles) between changes, just change the filter at recommended intervals (@3000miles I guess).
I know I'm going have a hard time allowing the oil to stay that many miles in my car, but I'll see, it is $8 a quart you know
If you guys want to read up on more in-depth posts on oils, do a search for posts by Road Rage. He is the "Big Kahuna" of oils in my opinion. What I just wrote is Crayola University level compared to his posts. I highly recommend you do, some synthetic oils are just hype. Buyer beware.
BTW, IMO this cars oil is very EASY to change the oil, a good car for someone whos thinking of doing/starting their oil change themselves for the first time. Just have someone who knows what their doing show you once and I would think most beginers would be able, no problem.

I "VE been using Mobil 1 for about 10 years now. Change the oil every 5000 miles instead of 3000 so the cost really isn't that much different. I get a case of Mobil 1 at Costco for about $22 (6 per case) . My regular mechanic charges me $10 for the change using my own oil and Honda filter. You can't beat that. I hate those Jiffy Lube joints, they usually have jerks working there who don't know what the hell they are doing. Overfilled my daughters Jeep and ruined the engine. By the way don't start using Synthetic until 5000 miles.
I use only the best for my baby: Redline synthetic. They make good ****. As I once heard someone put it, with synthetic the buildup on your exhaust tips is much less (if you have Comptech exhaust then you know what I mean - got to keep them babies clean!)... all the molecules are closer to the same size. With conventional oil the smaller molecules are burnt up and the larger ones hinder lubrication. Its not necessary, but I like ot give my ride the best.
At $6 a quart, times 4, its pretty steep. But I just pull in to a quik-stop and BS with the guys there about my car while they change the oil. They only charge me $10!

WORTH THE COST!!
I had an Integra before this, and when I switched I noticed a good difference. I bought my TL used at 10K miles, and the owner before me used regular oil. Since then, I have been running Mobil 1 Synthetic every 5K miles or less.
I use synthetic because I push my car fairly hard. If you are a grandmother-type driver, then it might not be worth the cost. But if you do any type of spirited driving, then it would most definitely be worth the extra coin.
