Are you Happy wit your TL??
I look through the forum and it seems like the TL's have a lot of problems. Are you TL owners happy with your TL though? Are you glad you bought this car, or do you regret it? I'm thinking of buyin a TL, but not so sure if it has so many problems. Tell me what you guys think.. late

I'm 100% happy with my TL-S. I haven't had any major issues with it. It draws the attention I like from people, doesn't draw as much as my old car did from the cops and has enough power to keep me satisfied. No complaints here.

Well you know the old saying "no news is good news" SO yeah there are a lot of complains because if something goes wrong, thats what people do. but a lot of us are happy with our TLs too and I had no major problems with my TL

I have to agree that there are alot of complaints on this messageboard about the TL and TL-S. I frequent a G35 messageboard pretty often and you just don't see anyone complaining about their car like you see here.

When I reviewing what I wanted to buy I was frequenting some G35 boards and there were enough complaints there also. For example, tons of posts on brake issues. Not to mention the fact that the G35 is a lot earlier in its lifecycle than the TL - just wait a bit I'm sure it'll get just a whiney.
I think forums just naturally attract complaints - people love to comiserate.

I cant say that i'm fully happy with the TL-S but back then when i shop for cars. There's only the g35 sedan thats even close to compare with the tl-s (value and liability). There were no g35 coupe. I didnt like the "frog" look of the G35 so i went with the TL-S. I was unaware of the tranny issue and the rattles and such back then. But all in all, i'm pretty happy with my purchase. the only thing that bugs me is the dash rattling during the winter time.

The Tl is the best value hands down. There isn't another car out there that can match in terms of what the car comes with along with price. I wanted to buy the G35 coupe but they are NOT budging on the price.

I'm happy with mine. I feel I have the best low-to-mid $30K car. My beefs are a sqeauky seat, non-performance tires, it doesn't come in manual, and the major after market parts are too few and too expensive. But as the car goes I love it, especially the color, ABP. Good power, luxury and value. And I only have 11,500 miles on it since July '01

I LOVE MY TL!!
I have a '99 with 82,000 miles on it and I have never had a problem.
I just got out of my lease and refinanced it, so I plan on keeping it a while longer. This is a fun car to drive and you get the most car for your money.
I highly recommend this car.

Aside from the potential tranny issue, I dig the TL. It has plenty of sex appeal. Friends are impressed with the navi. With the enhanced spring and shox, this car's *****in'. I wasn't fond of driving 'til the TL came along. I just enjoy motoring nowadays. Even my wife is trying to sneak in on the action.

I'm LOVE my TL. Although I cant drive it too much now that I lost my license, I get to ride in it often, and it just brings all kinds of smiles and happiness to my life! I guess since I'm single right now, its kind of like being married to it. I'm always washing it, waxing it, and doing everything to make it look hot. After driving my friends 740i, and 540i, my moms 528i, and I get back into my TL... I'm just overjoyed, and would rather have my TL over any one of those cars!

I like it a lot . . . I shipped my '99 over from Honolulu to the south bay 3 yrs ago. I have had no problems with it and started to have more fun with it last summer with the modifications.
And yes, great value for a sport luxury sedan!
Look around the bay area - there's a lot of TLs around.
Plus this forum is full of useful information and is full of users that are very quick to answer any questions.

Not all that happy - more like a rating of 6 on a scale of 1-10. The car has a real good look to it with the OEM body kit and I like the WDP color and redesigned front with the fog lights and larger grill. The Sport Shift is great with the new ECU that was put in with the tranny replacement.
But mechanically and integritywise its been pretty disappointing. My tranny tanked at 30k miles, and my rotors are warped yet again. From the reading I've done on this site and all the pad/rotor combos people have tried, I think the rotors are just undersized for the car. The fix is probably the Brembo brake Caliper/Rotor oversize upgrade, but its an expensive way to go and it shouldnt have to be done if the car was designed properly to begin with instead of just using Accord components.
The interior creaks and groans are fixable, and I've had quite a few, but my tolerance for it would have been higher if i had bought an "american" car. It came as a surprise to me from a Honda product, since all the Hondas my friend has had in the past were solid and rattle free. In the end, I chose to buy the TL over a Chrylser 300M mostly because I was expecting a rattle free car in the TL over the long term. Frankly, my TL has had more rattles than my last car, a 95 Dodge Intrepid ES. I even had to have the rear window of the TL pulled before the car even reached its first 800 miles because it had not been bedded right at the factory and it creaked on bumps and turns depending on the ambient air temperature. Nowadays I wish I had the 300M since I could have used a larger car. My car is owned not leased, so I have probably another 6 years before my next purchase. By then there will be a 4th gen TL coming out, but i wont be buying one.
Lastly, I really hate the look of the leather/vinyl seats. I have the parchment interior, and for the first few months of owning the car, Acura really had me fooled about the fact that only the seating surface is leather and all around the edge is vinyl. It was really convincing, even though i knew all along only the seating surface was leather. They matched the color perfectly, but as the car gets older, the vinyl/leather texture difference becomes more and more obvious. (I dont know if the Type S has full leather seating surfaces, mine is a TL-P.)
The car's got 38k on it after just over 1 3/4 years - if no other major mechanical problems pop up over the next 80-100k miles, ordinary wear and tear excepted, then maybe my opinion of the car will go up. It doesnt seem like there are any other major components that people have routinely experienced failures with the car so hopefully with the new tranny and the rattles fixed, only the brakes will be a perpetual problem. At $208 for Brembo rotors and StreetHawk pads from Tirerack.com, I would hate to have to keep replacing them every 20k miles, but since i can do the work myself in about an hour, I will deal with it if thats all the mechanical negatives I have to look forward to.

Not to be a PW or like it, but I do have to re-iterate that everytime, and I stress, EVERYTIME I get out of the car after parking it, I think to myself in one way or another, what an amazing car I purchased and how happy I am that I did so.... Heck, If I were to die in my TL-S, I would think I was in heaven already.

LOL - tell me about it. I just got done washing it... and I just sat there for 5 minutes afterwards just looking at it... can we say "obsession?"

Love / Hate relationship. Mostly because of crappy dealers. The little things are beggining to add up, seat creak (4 times), sunroof creak (3 times), dealer running it into a fence, a ticking noise that started at around 43K that the dealer won't take care of under warranty and they want to charge me $700 on a "valve adjustment", the tranny has been slipping since 15K and they won't do anything about it until it seizes.
I love the performance (minus tranny), the feel and the awesom look of the car. But with the way client relations has not stepped up to the plate, I'm afraid its my last Honda product.
I was going to buy an MDX or Pilot, but ended up getting another Explorer, every option 4x4, leather, 245 HP V8, sunroof, etc., etc. and saved 9K over the MDX and 6K over the pilot. My 97 Explorer (still own) is running great and other than a condensor coil and a power window lift, is the only money into it.
Honda / Acura is not standing by their product like they used to and if they are going to treat me like an American car dealer then I'll buy American...

I have 151,300 miles on my '00 TL=P with no complaints. With mods it's been fun and still has the origional tranny. Still drives and looks like new and uses NO oil yet between 5K mile synthetic changes. I'm shooting for 250 to 300K miles since my boss is cheap.

I have an '01 WDP w/NAV and spoiler with 31K miles.
Problems that I've had during that time:
At 3K miles rotors warped and had the problem with the wipers streaking real bad. Rotors were resurfaced and pads replaced. As for the wipers, the washer tank was flushed, the washer tubing and wipers were replaced.
(some '01 TLs left the factory with washer fluid that had a high alcohol content which broke down the rubber in the tubing and the wiper blades).
at 29K miles, rotors warped again and it was taken care of under warranty.
Those are the only things I have had go wrong (knock on wood), squeaks and rattles haven't been a problem and I absolutely LOVE my car.

Love the car but the Service Dept. thinks I'm some sort of an idiot.
Example: I hard wired my V1 at the fuse box area to the main power (30 amp) lead for the windshield wipers and tucked the remaining wire from the hardwire kit near where the fender meets the A-pillar (left of the fuse block). I had trouble with the moon roof switch and brought it in for that and another problem. The service department claims that the excess wire was "preventing the switch from toggling". I can't see how this can happen when the moon roof switch is - A.) About 8-9 inches away from any part of the hardwire kit and on the right side of the fuse block and B.) The switch is totally enclosed so even if the excess wire WAS getting in the way it could not have had contact with the switching mechanism. Geeezz...
Then the shifter gate bezel had two dings in it when I took delivery and I brought this to their attention a few days later. They agreed to replace it. They had the car for 3 1/2 days to order the part and put it in and the part never got to the dealer. In the mean time the detail shop tried to polish out the dings but only succeeded in taking off ALL the silver paint on the bezel and leaving speckles of compound on the radio face. Since the radio face is some sort of matte finish I'm not even gonna take the chance of removing that for fear that it could probably just polish it to an uneven and smooth finish.

I've only had mine 3 months but I love this car. It is so me. Despite the minor rattles and what have you that come with any car I love it. Third Honda and it's everything I expected, no regrets here!:p

I was not so thrilled with mine. It was a 2001 TL I bought in late 2000 and kept for about a year. Developed a slight shimmy that could not be fixed. Also found the car to be rather boring.
Traded for a BMW 528i/5-speed. A year later I traded that car for my current car, a Jaguar XJ8 which handles better than you'd expect and is faster than a TL. Already gettingbored of the big Jag and am looking at getting another BMW, maybe an M-roadster or a 540i/6-speed. I also kind of like the G35 coupe and also the E-class MBZ.

I still like my TL. But i'm the type of person that likes to have new toys. So i may not have it for long. Having said that, the only problem i have with my TL is the rotors. They are terrible! But everytime i take her to the dealer they fix it free of charge.
Now everyone and there mother has a TL in the Wahington Metro area, thats another reason i'm ready to get rid of her. Its like accords and camry's out here! And it does not help that i have the TL-p and a grandma flies past me in a Type-S! I"m waiting to see what the new TL looks like before i sale or trade her in.

No tranny issues (knock on plastic burlwood)
No rotor issues
Still get looks. Just yesterday, a guy about my age, out with his two small kids and wife, stepped out of his minivan and spent about 30 seconds gawking at my TL's lowered glory. He then gave me a thumbs up.
No rattles except (occasionally) windshield
This is the best car I have ever owned. Despite worrying about the transmission, I am pretty satisfied with the value this car offers, its performance, and its comfort. I hope to be able to keep the car until it rusts (though with Zaino I hope to keep that from happening for a long time).
