Yellow Rockblocker film vs 3000K HID bulbs

Team TL,

I switched out my 4100K Philips rebased for 9006 fitment HID bulbs for my fogs tonight and put in my 3000K 9006 Techone Bulbs. I know in the snow, the yellow light seems to work best for me and we've been getting dumped on here in Denver this year.

My question is, for those of you with 4100-4300K HID bulbs and using Yellow Rockblocker film on your fogs do you feel your light is very yellow/golden, or just a little less white?

The Techone 3000K HID bulbs are definitely not the same quality as my Philips 4100K bulbs, but I thought if I could find a cheap set of fog lenses, I could put Rockblocker Yellow film on one set and then be able to swap the non Yellow rockblocker film lenses with the yellow lenses at any time, but still use the same high quality bulb to get either 4100K light or yellow light whenever I wanted.

The 3000K Techone bulbs are certainly nice golden yellow and put a flood of yellow light to the sides and front of my car, but this is my 2nd set of Techone bulbs in about 6 months. They replaced them free under warranty, but since they are coated, I think the heat makes them fail faster than the Philips OEM style which of course is not coated.

I hope this makes sense, what say you all?

I'd also be interested to know if anyone has tried the Yellow Rockblocker film on their fog lenses. I wouldn't be swapping in HID's like CJITTY, but would just use the stock halogen bulb w/ the yellow film on the lens.

Anyone done this? How yellow does it look? Does the film affect the effective visibility of the light being shone?

Swapping the lenses on the fogs are actually pretty complicated - I think most people actually break the glass lenses then put the lexan in and reseal it. You might want to consider putting the lexan with rockblocker film over the front of the fogs - kinda like how glasses go. Some OEM headlights use metal clips that help hold heavy glass lenses (eg: the non-clear ones) onto the housings.

Nokya yellow bulbs AND the yellow Rockblocker lens film? Is that overkill? What I mean is, if you use the yellow film from Rockblocker, isn't the light from a stock (white) halogen going to be yellow enough?

t0ast - I'm pretty sure the Rockblocker is supposed to be applied to the outside of the lense i.e. you don't have to open up the lense and put the film on the inside surface

I have the same setup and they look good! Yes, it's a little overkill, but my fogs stay yellow all the time and I like it

yeah I know, but its pretty much permanent after you put it on the lenses. I was suggesting the "rockblocker glasses" as a way so they're removable when you want like what CJITTY wanted in his first post... although I think its kinda overkill just to have em swappable.
