XM Direct2 question(s)
So, I'm in the middle of my install (being done by my friend, who's an ex-professional installer) and I'm wondering if any of you guys have experience with using the XM Direct2 adaptor.
Problem 1: Crutchfield and XM say that my Alpine CDA-7995, although XM-ready, is not adaptable to XM satellite radio using the XM Direct2 device. I still purchased it from Crutchfield, assuming that they just didn't research far back enough to the 2002 models of Alpine in-dash units since the XM Direct2 wasn't invented till later, but then also thought that this is what I'm gonna have to have to make it work sooner or later, even if I have to buy a new Headunit.
Problem 2: Where do you guys suggest mounting my antenna, but more importantly, where do you suggest running the antenna wire to the interior of the car? The antenna that came with the XM Direct2 is the Teardrop variety, and about a quarter-sized.
Is anyone familiar with making a non-compatible headunit compatible with the XM Direct2? Usually it seems that there's always some way to make it work. Or do I just need to find another way to adapt to XM, like a MyXM, or a portable unit, etc? Or should I just search for a newer, more compatible Alpine headunit?
