Cool Worthy travel companion...Passport 8500

Took my new TL type S on my first long trip yesterday. The Passport 8500 worked well, saved me from one patrolman using a on/off button and operating from behing a large hill. So simple to just plug it in and go. The site radartest.com ranks it highly and so do I. My average speed must have been 80-85 with gas mileage of 27.5mpg. Not too bad.

Where and how did you mount the 8500? I am considering getting one myself, but since they are illegal in Ontario, I need to find a good location for it that will allow me to quickly remove it. Top of the windshield allows the cop driving behind me see me reaching for the radar detector. Did you try to mount it on top of the dashboard?

I purchased my Passport 8500 from my local audio/electronics dealer. I have it mounted on the bottom of the dash between the windshield wipers. Very inconspicuous there. Of note this radar detector is not detectable by others. I feel that mounted here is probably just as good as being higher up. If you notice on the dash there is a raised band running from side to side. This band is ideal to low mount your detector if you so wish. I dislike having a hanging cord also. The color of the 8500 blends in well with the parchment color interior of the car. The smartcord provided with the 8500 runs right up the right side of the dash to the right of the cd player and doesnt have much movement at all.
