Question Woodgrain Steering Wheel Questions

How much does it cost to get a new steering wheel put on... avg? or how much do you think I should pay?

Mine looks pretty bad on my 2000 TL... Are the woodgrain one's nice looking or cheap?

I'm either going to buy a woodgrain one or just have an apholstry shop rewrap my steering wheel I guess.

Damn... I need to know how much the whole thing costs... I'll call the stealership, but I know it will cost an arm and a leg with them.

Red face

Dealership said it's $500 for the wheel and $187 to install.

He said that there is no woodgrain steering wheel for the 2000 acura TL?

This lady told me to find instructions on how to remove the steering wheel itself... She also said it would cost $280 to rewrap it with leather and that my car would be gone for 7 days

Someone shed some light...

Which models/years steering wheels fit my 2000 tl?

Is it hard to take my wheel off?

the dealership is WRONG (as always). i have a 2000 TL and i am driving with a wood steering wheel. if there is no wood steering wheel, how do they explain this [mod edit] or this [mod edit]

trust me, these fit your TL...this seller is also the one i got my wheel from. its an acura dealership. as for installation, you CANNOT do it yourself because there is a special steering wheel tool that you need to remove your old one. plus, your messin' with the airbag so for safety reasons, i would take it to a professional mechanic. you dont need to take it to a dealer, just call up any reputable mechanic.

www.hondacura world.com (remove space) has installation instructions for a 2004 TL, but many of the steps should be the same.

I think the guys in the parts department don't know what is interchangeable and what's not... I was also asking for an 03 tl cupholder for my 2000 tl... He didn't know if they were interchangeable.

Question

This lady in Dallas said that she can dye the wheel and fix the worn out part for like $60.

Do you guys think that that will look normal? Of course, she said it would look new again.

She said she would put some kind of sealer on the part that's warn and then sand it down... then dye the whole rim to factory color.

Let me know if anyone know's about this and if it's okay to do... otherwise I'll spend the money on a new wheel.

honestly, youre gonna have to spend for labor to take off the wheel and put it back on...might as well spend the $360...once you have a wood wheel, you wont go back

I'm in Dallas. Where's this that you're referring to? It sounds cheap enough to experiment. My concern is for the texture. After 100K miles, my wheel is worn smooth; there's no grain left in many spots on the steering wheel.

Some lady that dyes steering wheels... She said it takes about an hour and not to touch the wheel for at least 2 hrs after she's done.

I just don't know how good it would look... but, it's the most affordable option for sure and if you like I can call her and see if she'll do both of ours for $50 each...

If you just want to call her then her number is 469.744.5009 Her name is Torrie Battle--Elite Interiors.

Let me know if you want me to see about a discount for the two of us.

Dang Jeremy, I've just bought a replacement leather wheel off ebay for $1.50 plug $10 for shipping. Not bad for $11!!!! It's a takeoff wheel from Acura of Seattle. I guess they put a woodgrain on for someone and need to get rid of the one they replaced. Looks B R A N D new! I'm gonna try to install myself.

$40 for this one: [ mod edit -- no ebay links allowed ]

Here's another listing like the one I got for CHEAP!! I think the way I won is that she advertises 3 wheels, when folks likely need only one, so they don't bid. I contacted her and told her what I needed so she just sent the one wheel I needed. Awesome deal! Here's the link:

I remember reading on here that someone got their woodgrain wheel installed by the dealership cheap.

Said it was only like 30 minutes worth of labor because he brought in the wheel himself. I think it is a matter of unscrewing the radio and cruise control buttons, and then pulling the airbag off.

I don't remember him saying a special tool is needed - but you do need an impact wrench to make sure the wheel is safely secured.

30 minutes sounds about right, though I took my time. I had a PDF of the instructions from Honda. Tools required are a philips screwdriver, steering wheel puller, torx bit (T-40 or T-45) and whatever socket to unscrew the main bolt holding in the the wheel. No impact of any kind was needed. Doing it again I could likely do it in about 30 minutes. A dealership shouldn't charge more than 1 hour of labor. I loooove my new wheel, though it's only a Type-S, not wood.

PS, I read the rules on ebay links, and it referred to Black Market, not the entire site. The rule needs to be written more clearly. It's clearly in teh Black MArket section, not general rules. SCan through Ramblings and there are plenty of ebat links.
