wobbling/vibrating noise from trunk lid

Hi all,

Looks like some small issue with my trunk lid lock. While I am driving, the lid is making a noise as if the lock is loose.

Any helps? Is it self-fixable?

Also, the trunk lock works fine, i mean it does not open by itself.

Trunk lock

Hey Cheekoo, as you know the rear trunk lid's lock is controlled by a lever to the lower right of the driver's seat. Really not too much to come loose with the lock assembly. Have you checked the contents of your trunk for anything else that may be causing this "noise" that you're hearing. If the lock is intact and working well, my guess is that it is something else other than the lock. It could even be something loose in the rear suspension that is transmitting sounds to you. Make sure everything is secure within your car's trunk or remove items if necessary. If the sound still is present after checking the trunk's contents, then on a quiet night ....have someone drive the car, while you sit in the back and try to isolate the general area which the noise is originatng from. Probably, something simple !

Checked the tightness of the spare lately?

thanks guys for your replies.. i checked it closely,
- spares and all other things in trunk are intact, nothing loose to fly around.
- With trunk closed, if i try to move it up/down, there is small play and sound is similar to wat I hear while driving. is it possible that the lock may have become loose?

Loose trunk lid latch

If you've checked the contents of your trunk and everything is relatively secure, than you need to take a closer look at the actual latch assembly. Perhaps something was hauled in the trunk that may caused the latch to move a bit.

Try holding the latch assembly and attempt to move it by hand. If there's any give, then it'll need to be adjusted for a tighter fit. It could also be the lower part which it latches down onto. There should be absolutely no play, otherwise it may cause the wobbling and vibrating that you're hearing.

Also check the hinges for clearance, as it's possible one maybe gotten forced into a binding position. Open the trunk's deck lid and grasp it firmly, then attempting to move it about....check for any play.

If you're unable to isolate the issue, a reputable bodyshop could take a look at it for you. While the noise may be annoying, you certainly don't want water to get into your car's trunk.

thanks for the replies. Sorry been busy lately.
I installed a trunk bike mount, and that has caused the vibration to go away. so I think it was somewhere in assembly, but it doesn't bother me now. Will take it to a body shop sometime.
Also thankfully it is still waterproof :) so nothing urgent
