Cool ???WHY REPLACEMENT SWAYS???

If I'm not mistaken, our TL's already come with front and rear anti sway bars. Why would we want to replace them? Are ours inadequate or defective?

Are we moding our cars for no good reason?

I guess you can say they are inadequate for the more aggressive drivers. They make the car stiffer and reduce bodyroll in turns. They are a must-have IMO.

The comptech sways are stiffer which will give you less body roll around the turns.
I got springs and sways. It makes BIG difference....

*lol*
Our TL's already come with a lot of things that we replace to *improve* performance or looks.

Some examples...
stock tails --> inspire/TL-S tails
stock springs --> lowering springs
stock alarm --> aftermarket alarm
stock stereo --> aftermarket stereo *system*
there are so much more but the list is going to be outrageously loooong...

Get the picture?
As for the sways, the aftermarket ones are thicker and stiffer, resulting in reduced body roll. Like someone said, if you like taking those 25mph turn at 60mph.. then get some anti sway bars. (and lowering springs and a good set of tires.) I'm not saying speeding is good... but just for those ppl that like driving agressively, these performance adders are a must.

I don't consider myself to be the typical aggressive "make quick moves and weave in and out of traffic like an a$$hole" driver.

However, I do think that the TL has a little more body roll than should be expected from the car. I take long curved exits and at just 40 mph. It gets a little annoying trying to keep your body upright for that long.

After putting my sways and springs on, I don't even feel it anymore. I love it.

Body roll in my stock 99TL is obvious and also kind of funny. I am sure if you were someone from the outside seeing me take a normal turn, you would see me scrunched up on the side in which I am making the turn, cheek pressed against the window, all my packages in the back shifted to that side, dogs shifted to that side (or falling out the window if it were open!).

But hey wait a minute, this maybe a good way to get your date, girlfriend or significant other much closer to you in the car too ;-)

Hey, I'm just going with the flow my friends.

Maybe it is time to take your wise upgrade words.

I agree. Our handling sucks. I'm considering getting the comptech bar, and lowering springs. Then, new tires. Our tires are weak also. With these minor mods, i think great improvement will be reached. BTW, i'm not doing this for aggresive driving necessarily,, but also for safety concerns. A car that handles well, brakes, well, and can accelearte well is a safer car.

I also would like to get upgrade brake pads.

Is it possible to put the aftermarket sways on while leaving the stock ones on? Wouldnt that reduce roll a lot more?

The answer is no. After market anti-sway bars are direct replacement of the stock bars. You'd have to take the stock ones off to put another one there. (Something like Quiet said.) Unless you fabricate another set of mounting points, it is impossible to have two sets of anti-sway bars on your car. (This... I don't recommend because stiffer isn't always better.)

You probably got the idea from looking at Tann's Neuspeed Upper Strut tower bar that was installed along side with the stock upper strut. That was an unusual case where the stock bar wasn't mounted on the same location.

For those of you whom have sways installed on your car...How does it affect the ride? I'm concerned that if I put sways on, the stock ride will be affected. Don't plan on getting springs or tires right now, just the sways. I would like the car to be a little more aggressive around turns without sacrifising ride quality.

Well, I don't have anti-sway bars on my TL but I had them on my previous car.

Anti sway bars themselves should not diminish the ride quality. The bars are there so your car won't "sway". Only downside I can possibly think of would be that when you are going over a bump or a steep ramp, your car might make some flexing noises.

BTW, I do recommend using lowering springs, aftermarket shocks and a good set of rubbers to compliment your anti-sway bars. They really go hand-in-hand.
