Why is RedLine oil not API certified? RoadRage, you know I'm waiting for your input
I was just going to make a call and buy some 5W30 for my Lexus, and it hit me that I never did see a certification symbol on their bottles. I called 'em up, and sure enough, their oil has "not been submitted for API certification."
This company was started in 1978; they had plenty of time to do all this.
I don't even know if Amsoil is certified either? Is there a disadvantage to being certified? Any input from anyone is appreciated? Maybe API certification is not a big deal, but at least it gives me some assurance that it does what an oil is supposed to do.
I also went to Mobil1's site to look at their oil filter (seems the best out there) and they have posted this next to the picture of their 5W30:
SMOOTHER. CLEANER. BETTER.
On April 15th, our best gets even better.
Anybody know what's going on?

Not a Blowhole
API certification does not guarantee quality, but does have a degree of marketability. I also believe that Red Line did not lower its ZDP anti-wear additive and may not meet the mfrs desire to protect their catalytics for 100k miles while reducing the protection for the customer's engine.
If I wear buying an oil from Road Rage Oil Co, I might be concerned about lack of API certification. When it comes to RedLine and , yes, Amsoil, I would not be concerned in the slightest.

Whoohoo! He's alive... Man, two days and no reply, I thought you overdosed on RedLine...
Anyway, a case of RedLine is on its way to my house. My local dealer wanted $15 per quart, RedLine wanted $7.75. I only have 1100 miles on my Lexus, so it's gonna be a good start for its engine. I'm off to get a Mobil1 oil filter now.
Once again, RoadRage, I can't thank you enough for all the info you provided us with.
