Why does everyone say Bosch O2's are no good?

I'm about to replace the old dirty 02 on my 2001 CLS (only getting a combined 20MPG) and I am gonna put a direct fit Bosch on it. A few months ago I had a nice honda odyssey that ran good but failed smog bad on the Co2's. Took out the nearly brand new denso from honda and put a bosch and it passed with flying colors, so my experience has been the opposite.

Is there actually any proof that Bosch is not good for our cars or is it all just internet theory?

Denso is oem direct fit replacement and is known to be reliable. If you find bosch works, there is no reason not to use it. There are instances that bosch didn't work for other members, and i am sure majority would stay with denso; at least for me.

My experience with Dodge turbos back in the 80s was that Bosch 02 sensors were bad news for those engines. Bosch is great stuff for German cars, but I prefer other brands for Japanese or American stuff. NGK and Denso are usually super reliable, maybe you just got a bad 02 sensor, or it was dropped & damaged or something

In the past here MANY members had issues with bosch not working and failing shortly after putting them in.

Good to know about the Bosh O2s not working in the TL. I have used them in several other cars with no problems, but some cars get real picky about these things some times.

there are 2 approved brands for the TL and neither is Bosch!
just because a plug has the right threads and heat range- does not make it the correctly operating plug for a vehicle
denso cost more and last fewer miles than ngk
use ngk iridium -iridium ix or platinum
a small dab of plug anti sieze works wonders on new threads for installation

Were talkin 02 here, but yeah some ngk iridiums are gonna go in soon. Has some older Denso Iridiums in it now.

Did you have a CEL for the O2 in the CL? and what difference in performance did you see when you changed it?

It's possible for an original O2 sensor to be functioning on the edge of it's designed range and not throw a CEL code. Sometimes a gunked up cat will ultimately go bad and cause sluggish runability issues. An old O2 can at times possibly be the reason for poor gas mileage. They're not that expensive to replace if ya have reasons to believe it's not working properly.
