Why buy a FWD car if you live in the south?
I always wondered this... if you lived in a climate where there is no snow, then why buy a front wheel drive car? I mean RWD cars are soo much more fun. Im not trying to bad mouth anyone, i just wanted to know the reasoning behind buying a FWD car in the south.

My two cents
Most people are not car enthusiasts like us that know the difference. Unless you've driven a RWD car, people don't understand what we're talking about. Plus the fact that most popular cars (Taurus, Camry, Accord) are FWD. But that's changing, there's a very strong likelihood that the next RL is RWD and maybe Acura will decide to base the next TL on the RL instead of the Accord platform.

Because you can usually get better bang for the buck for a FWD car. And for most people, a FWD car is more than good enough!
And while we're picking at "sub-optimal" performance configuration, why not insist that everyone drive cars with mid-mounted engines? That's the optimal location for performance and balance, but it's hardly practical nor economical for most people.
- More legroom for driver/shorter cowl (due to transverse mounted engine)
- More legroom in the back (no driveshaft to rear -- see Civics)
- Less weight due to absence of a long driveshaft
- Weight of the engine is on the drive wheel to reduce slipping (important for very light cars)
- More room for the back seat or trunk due to lack of rear differential assembly

I don't think people used FWD/RWD/AWD as their first priority to buy a car.
A lot of people don't buy FWD cars because is needed, is just what you get with the car you like.
I would loved a AWD car or a RWD. But I don't like any of the cars that have AWD/RWD.
Your question would be a good question IF all the cars in the market would offer RWD/FWD, then if people bought FWD in the south, you could ask why? but at this moment it is a very stupid question.
Plus companies would never offer two drivetrains on the same car
