A White Moutains Weekend Drive
I spent Thanksgiving weekend in the White Mountains with my family, and one of the highlights was driving my TL
Heading up from Boston on Thursday morning, the roads emptied out north of Concord. My average speed for the trip (including city streets in Boston and two stops) was over 60 mph. I maintained a steady 85-95 for the last 50 miles on I-93, and the TL was rock-steady and smooth the whole way.
The NH country roads and the TL are a perfect combination - lots of long sweeping turns and chicanes, good pavement, and well-marked corners. I typically settled in at about 70 mph, and I clearly could have gone 10-15 mph faster without hitting the car's limits. When I overtook the occasional car, the TL effortlessly leapt past, removing all anxiety from passing. The highlight was a quick 30 mile round-trip for pizza on Saturday evening, during which I only needed to pass one car the whole time!
The drive home yesterday was through horrible weather - steady snow for the first 60 miles, and pouring rain the rest of the way. It was no fun (especially compared to the rest of the weekend), but the TL once again kept me feeling safe and in control, even on those OEM Michelins. (Actually, they probably work better on lightly packed snow than whatever I'll replace them with...) After over 4 hours behind the wheel, most of it listening to rain beating down on the windows, I arrive home barely tired from the drive.
I love this car!

Watch out on I-93 in New Hampshire. The cops there just love to give cars with Mass plates tickets.
I-93 North of Concord is so empty it is very tempting to open it up, however the cops know this and I've seen many radar traps and even spotter planes there. Especially in winter when they get the skier traffic. And yes I have personally seen the spotter plane in use, a radar detector won't help you here.
You are right about the back roads, they are very nice for fast cruising.
