Wheel Locks

So after seeing a girl crying in a parking garage because her Integra was sitting on cinder blocks...I decided I really F'n need some wheel locks. Yea, thats right. I'm an idiot and haven't gotten any yet

I want some good wheel locks around the $100 range. Rays look good, but are kinda pricey and I'm not sure about the Ron Jon Wheel locks. Does anyone know how secure they are?

What are some good wheel locks I can buy so I can sleep at night without worrying?

Are any of them really different? I have Gorilla locks on one car and factory McGards on the TL (stock wheels on both, but I buy locks just in case anyway)

I suppose if you really want to go nuts you can get 4 or 5 (depending on your lug count) sets and have 4 or 5 different locking lugs on each wheel.

So far the only wheels Ive seen stolen around here were stock alloys off of really common cars (4 lug 98 accord wheels, etc)

wheel locks... myeh... its only a deterrent... thieves will always find another way to get your wheel off if they really like it...

just slam your car all the way so they won't fit a jack under or anything... lulz

My car had wheel locks on it when I bought it, didn't have the key took me all of thirty seconds to remove the lug, kind of a waiste of money to me, your better having rims with cover that locks and covers the lugs than the crappy lug locks.

they would need a low profile jack to lift mine up...unless they pop my trunk, get out the pieces of wood...roll my car up on it...and then jack it up

but seriously Josh, I know you had wheel locks

Im talking about getting GOOD wheel locks....there is no way you could get this off in 30 seconds

It has a free spinning outer collar. There is no way to grab it without the key.

I dont think it looks too dumb anyways

just get whatever brand you feel comfortable with. any one brand isnt more "secure" or "safer" than the next. as long as they are locking. you can ether get lugs that have one lock per wheel or just getting locking lugs meaning you have to use a key to take all of them off.

I like the type that require a special tool for the fitting tip of the lugs
A socket fits the tool but not the lugs
Use them on each lug on my baby to keep the enkeis on her~

While locks wont stop the determined - they will push the casual `opportunity thief` down the road to easier pickins

if they really want the wheels, your whole ride will be gone in 60 seconds!
carry insurance on the car and add any special items like rims onto the policy so they are covered for loss

say if you buy Rays lugs with 5 locking lugs, is the key the same for ALL Rays. If the thief has the key for Rays lugs can he get them off with the key? Or does every pack have a slight difference?

Thanks. Have you seen the ones with the free spinning collar that way you cannot fit a socket around it?

I just called a local tire shop and they sell Gorilla Locks. They said every key is slightly different. I think they come with a serial code that way if you ever lose it they can cut you a new one using that code

Another point is that most people carry the key in the trunk or in the glove compartment in case they get a flat while driving or away from home... if someone really wants to steal the wheels, all they have to do is get in (not hard to do for the determined thief) and use the key that the owner has inside the vehicle.

Locks are definitely a deterrant, but the underlying message here is: if someone wants to steal your wheels/car/whatever, they will find a way.

Deterrance and Insurance are the best you can do to protect your investment.

And of course it's probably a good idea to keep the key on you at all times just incase something like that happens, you just have to hide it very well

Depends on what wheels you have, and get the proper lock for the wheels. IF you have oem wheels, best is oem locks. You don't need fancy locks, or crooks will go after your locks and not the wheels. Locks are just deterrance. Crooks will open any locks they want. They don't learn how to do it on your car, they come to your car prepared for what they need.

those collar locks are easily defeated- freeze them with compressed gas, smack with the hammer and gone in 3 seconds
Im not sure how well they torque

at least the ones that require their own special socket, like a 5 or 7 sides, (sockets/lugs have 6 normally) are harder to get with normal tools
the regular car lug wrench fits on the end of that, or a socket and airgun

Dont think they carry airguns?,,they have 18volt power saws to steal the cat if they want to!

I agree fancy looking locks draw attention to the wheels- Why dont they want me to steal them????,,,must be worth a lot,,,I can sell these easy!!! (thiefs mind)

While ones that look like lugs, but socket wont fit...they move to the next target that offers no resistance...I hope

wheel lock companies are not making a million different keys, these are not high profit high sellers in the realm of locks

there are small differances yes, but crooks buy them, take apart and figure out how to defeat

acura uses ~5 different keys for most of its wheel locks- dealer has a small ring of them for cars that arrive for service without the needed key

most lug locks sold with 2 keys, put one where its safe at home, major pain to remove locks without destroying them and the rim..crooks dont care- we do~

You guys are making it sound like no wheel locks are better than having them, lol

I think i'll just get some gorilla locks and just not worry about it anymore. I'm not leaving my car overnight anywhere so I should be alright. The last time my car was broken into they went for interior first, which tripped the alarm and probably scared them off....they didnt even try the wheels

as long as you list the custom wheels on your insurance it wont be any problem if they disappear
but realistically I hear of more TLs being taken for a joy ride than rims being removed

there is a ziner in vegas that lost the car for a few days and was recovered- didnt set the alarm off or seem to resist intrusion very long...gone from a public place- turn your back and whoooosh

no wheel locks may be the best plan~ those are not even worth locking- why steal them!

If you can find the ones I mentioned (they were from online- will look for name on lock) thats what I suggest- from years of being in the industry,, and recently watching a tech try to remove locks of an escalade with rims--trashed the rim

I didnt know you could list rims on your insurance. Does it make my insurance go up? Please let me know if you find those 5-sided or 7-sided wheel locks. those sound cool and probably wont catch too much attention. Im assuming they look like regular lugs

yeah the lugs look totally stock on my rims- will ck for name on lock and post

It may cost a dollar or 2? on your comprehensive to add specific items like rims or upgraded stereo to your policy- they are called riders- and then they are covered!
