Whats this I hear? A rattle under the hood? OH NO!
Doh! Had my TLS for a week, but I've noticed an occasionally rattle coming from what I think is under the hood. I've finally determined the rattle occurs while in 4th gear and around 2000-2500 rpms. It may be occuring in other gears but this is what I've noticed so far. Its hard to find a smooth, quiet road to diagnose on. I havent been able to get the rattle continuously cuz 4th gear at 2-2.5k rpms is a bit fast for the streets and a bit slow for the freeways. But it does make the rattle consistently when I'm in 4th and take the rpms across 2k - 2.5k rpms. Initially, I was thinking it was a loose belt or something but I'd expect it make noise at all gears at that same rpm, but I dont notice it in the other gears or even P and N (at the same rpm range). I'm praying it aint the transmission. Maybe theres some piece of plastic somewhere with a resonant frequency the same as the vibrations with that gear and at that rpm. I need to get this sucker on rollers and figure this out. I doubt anybody else has a similar noise. Anybody? Somebody have a guess? Which SoCal Acura dealer should I take my car to? I dont want to take my car to some lame dealership to have them rip up my car to figure out what the sound is coming from. why me

It's probably nothing too serious but it of course should not be occurring. I had a similiar thing happen to my old Integra in the 4500 RPM range. It was a loose heat shield. The fact that your noise happens consistently at the same RPM indicates to me you need just the right conditions to make the loose thing rattle. Bring it in.

I had this rattling and squeaking noise from the engine compartment (at idling RPM) after coming back from a Las Vegas trip. Took it to the dealer (Acura 101 West), they replaced the belt pulley (tensioner) and the noise is gone for good.
