What's the difference between compound and wax?

I have a minor scratch on the clear coat. What do I need to make it disappear?

Thanks.

wax is to polish and shine up the car. compound does that also but u buff and smooth some of the clear coat . . . this is onlee need if u have scratches . . . it looks nice u compound your car maybe once a year to freshen the paint and get rid of the scum build-up every year. your car will look fresh and new after you compound your car. its not good to compound your car very often because you are buffing out and takn out thin layer of clear.
