What's the deal with the scheduled maint?

I've been away from this forum for quite sometime and I have a few questions I'm hoping you guys can help with.

I have an '02 TL Type-s w/ navi with approx. 32K miles. Besides regular oil changes, I haven't really done anything to the car.

First question: besides oil changes/tire rotation, what should I be doing to the car? Tune up? How much of the "scheduled" maintenance is really necessary? I used to work with a guy that would swear most of it's only a way to fatten the dealer's wallet.

Can someone please give me the skinny on the transmission issue. I feel like mine is acting funny. When I let take my foot off the accelerator, it feels like the car slows down, almost like I go from 4th to 2nd. I've read a few posts here that say their tranny failed them and then they took it in. What should I be looking for?

Any recommendations on where to buy 17" tires? I don't need them right away, but I figured I would start looking.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

DO THE CABIN AIR FILTER(@ 32K MINE WAS PRETTY UGLY LOOKIN) (opps caps) Ok. Look at your tranny fluid, If its brown at all your trannies on its way out. It should be clear with a hint of pink.

thanks for the words. I'll take a look tomorrow when it's sunny out.

Anyone else care to comment? What about a tune-up? New plugs or anything? I really don't know much about engines (obviously).

Sched Maintenance is to keep your car's records to say that you maintained according to Honda (or other's) specs. The only purpose of this is to keep the value of your car up in the event that you trade the car in and expect a higher resale value. IMO, this will only help the dealer when he resells your car, but I have also read about the dealer(s) not honoring warranties or extending goodwill repairs if the car was not dealer maintained. In the rare case of a major mechanical breakdown, the dealer can tell you you're SOL and get it fixed yourself since there is not record of you maintainig it thru the dealer. Most goodwill repairs that I have heard are cars that were dealer maintained. I wouldn't worry about it if you decide on keeping the car for a while.

they would have to prove that it was from not doing it. and the dealer doesnt have to be the one to inspect the car ("their scheduled maintanance" ) they would have to prove that it wasnt done. check your fluids, change your oil, change your tranny fluid when your supposed to and thats all there is to it

Change Tranny Fluid

OK...when are you "supposed" to change it. In the owner's manual for my 2002 TLS it does not recommend changing untill 120K. Although, the dealer tried to get me to do it at 35K.

Thanks in advance

Hi. I just checked my tranny fluid and it was brown. I have a TLS with 41000. I'm going to the dealer tomorrow and their going to do a road test. Should at least have the tranny fluid changed? Thanks.
