what would cause the rps to jump while idling?

what would cause the rps to jump while idling?

my car sat for a week. came back today and start her up and the rpms jumped from idle to 2k and keeps doing so. no idea what was wrong, i figured just drove it around and see what happends and it went away after 15 minutes.



what would cause such a thing?

Mine did that after sitting for 4 days...went away after 10 minutes and hasn't ever happened again.

so is that something that just gets gunked up?

Your car is warming up I believe. It's completely normal, like the engine is just trying to circulate the oil more quickly.

But if it doesn't go down to around 800 RPM at idle after about 10 minutes of driving, then you have a problem.

if it was bouncing id say the IAC valve. You can take it off and try cleaning it but its a part that should be replaced if it does it again

I had this happen and it would not stop......dealership said I needed an idle re-learn. Whatever that is?No problems since
