What is the truth with Yellowing HID's???
I've run quite a few searches here and I've found opposing answers to my question...I have a 2000 TL-P that still has the stock headlights...and I think they are kinda yellow...I bought it used a couple of months ago at 73000 miles...so I really don't know what they are supposed to look like cuz noone around here has any tl's that I know...so i have noone to compare it to. I have seen them coming the opposing way on the highway and they seem bright white with a light hint of blue...but I'm usually behind the wheel when I see them...=) Now here's my question...some people say that when your HID's get older, they get brighter and bluer before they go out...but some other threads say that they get more yellow and not as bright...now I've done a lot of searching before posting this thread, and there are answers that go in complete opposite directions. I would like to eventually get 6000k, but I really just want to wait until one of mine go out...but I am not sure if the time is coming or if I have awhile to go...does anyone have any kind of information or proof saying one or the other? Thanx alot guys!!! PS: Are there any other girls here that have tl's? drop me a line!

Philips Xenon HID FAQS
"Colour stability:
One of the physical properties of Xenon gas discharge bulbs is that the colour changes over life time. The colour shifts towards the blue end of the colour spectrum. Consequently when only one bulb is replaced on a car, either because it has reached the end of its life or due to an accident, the colour impression of the new bulb compared to the older existing one will be different, i.e. more yellow."

thanx ed!!! So it looks like the older it gets, the bluer...so I wonder what's up with all these people with yellowing bulbs...does anyone think that it has to do with the housing? Or maybe the diffuser? Or maybe something wrong with the ballast? One question a little more off topic, but similar...if the diffuser was removed...there would prolly be more glare to oncoming drivers. But would it make the lights brighter or bluer? Has anyone out there tried any kind of retrofit to change this or improve the light/color? I've seen someone here with projectors...that's something I would like to do...but has anyone tried to make any kind of reflective housing like in the 02+? thanx!!

Ok, most of the cars that I know when the HID are starting to fail they turn somewhat pink not blue. As far as the yellow ones, most of them is because the outside is so dirty that it needs to be polished. If the ouside is fine then the housing is the problem or at some point the inside got water and the optics got damage. As far as the 6000K, know this, you will loose some light output and you will gain some bluish tint to it when you look at it. Somewhere in this site somebody talked about a site that have like 5300K bulbs and the light output was better than the OEM ones so if mine ever fail thats what I will put on not the 6000K, but we have a lot of people using the 6000K in here and they are ok with them, its a matter of taste. Good luck.
