we arent running higher grade fuel to go faster on the interstate.
not like its posted inside the gas door or anything.
keep running that 85-87 grade fuel... if it works for you, awesome.

Knocking or pinging is a sound that an engine makes when the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chambers ignites too early. Although slight knocking or pinging won’t damage your engine, loud knocking can cause damage and should not be allowed to continue. The solution is to use a high octane fuel, which is actually more difficult to ignite, despite the misconception that high octane fuel is more powerful. When the fuel is more difficult to burn, early ignition is eliminated, and with it the knocking or pinging.
The octane level required by an engine is determined by its compression ratio: higher-compression engines require higher-octane fuel. For example, a basic sedan generally only requires the standard octane fuel offered at gas stations, while a high-performance sports car or race car may require a high octane fuel. The owner’s manual lists information on the type of fuel you should use in your car.

i think he was asking what kind of fluid. meaning it should be 1 of 2 possible answers: dextron, which will get you buttslapped by people here -or- the good/proper choice: Honda ATF Z-1(IIRC that's right name)

ATF-Z1, of course! $7.12 a quart. The magnet had grey sludge and little metal particles.
And OEM front and right engine mounts should be installed this or next weekend.
Windshield to be clay-barred, and OEM wiper blades installed [existing aftermarket are very loud!]
I replaced the mirror and clock bulb last week.

Acura TLS are SLOW
Im cheap, stop using 93 octane at 50k, i have 143K now, no problem I get the same gas mileage 87 or 93. Some performance lost using 87, no detonation, misfire, etc. Good old knock sensor doing its job. Did a compression test 170Psi on all cyl. Unless my engine is forced induction w/high compression(porsche motor), Im going to keep using regular. Heck, even porsche said its OK to use regular even tho their engine is design to use premium.

eddie, those accords should run just fine on 87, unless heavily modded
anyways always preminuim here at 91 (and Shell also), don't have any higher (as 01tl4tl said in post 10)(we are the highest state overall also as far as altitude)
but anyways OP, you forgot to put 85 in the poll for those absolute cheapskates (that's our base grade here)

this might be good reading for some:
http://www.swiftenterprises.com/Docu...702%20Fuel.pdf
very technical, and is about why aircraft need leaded fuel (an octane booster, from a bygone era, at least for street cars), and not having to meet the 1990 epa standards

I started out, when getting the car a month ago, on 87.
But after going to 93, and carefully monitoring my fuel economy,
I'm convinced I'm getting at least 10% better mileage.
After I Seafoam this weekend, and a fresh Mobil oil change, it should be even more smooth with 93.

since I bought the car 2 years ago I've run 87 unless I caught the station dry and selling premium at the same price.. filled up with 91 last week and after noticing the difference will never consider the extra 4 dollars worth saving ever again

What was the difference you noticed?

And this is exactly the reason to run what they manufacturer recommends. Sure it runs on 87, just not the way it should.

Where I live, the best price station that's closest is 92/91 octane
Most gas stations only carry 87 89 91 here - they stopped carrying 98 and 94.
If i'm close, I fill up at Chevron, 94.
It is reeeeeaaally out of the way.

That's interesting- I use both and can't tell it runs any different. It just runs fine, always smooth. I'm not an aggressive driver & don't push it much.

ALWAYS 91 and if I come across it then its 94. In Canada our best gas station is probably Shell and thank GOD there's one 3 blocks down the road from me.
I see it as one less Starbucks coffee a day will save me thousands and possible millions in car trouble

damn, almost forgot how good the car runs with shell v-power 93!!! Im currently settling in in wisconsin and not much money at the moment so my brother has been pumping gas for me, 93 octane from local gas station and it makes the car feel SOOOOO slugish! Only supreme gas for my tl.
local shell station is a good 5-7 miles away from me

Chevron is the only one now to have 94 still.
Its prob. just "boosted" to 94 as I understand they come from the same supplier.
There's a co-op gas station close that saves you 6 cents a liter. - 91 octane.

regular will work also, and your motor won't go bad (Honda engines are not like glass trannys, they can take a lot of abuse).
BUT, you will get reduced performance and lower MPG, in the end making $2-3 saving vanish due to lost MPG
