Won't be selling the TL anytime too soon. Planning on selling it after another 2 years or so. I don't know why many people think gas mileage sucks with the TL's. I'm getting 38mpg on the highway with a pos hyundai accent. That thing brand new cost 10,300..so it's a decent deal imo. But I was fairly surprised when I saw that the TL was able to drop 30-34mpg highway consistently for me...just depends on the speed I'm going. Speed limit is 75 most the way on my usual route, so if I'm going 80-85 I get 30-32mpg, 75 or just over I get closer to 34mpg. Not as good as the accent, but it's damn close..and the engine has exactly twice the displacement. And in other news, my freaking turbo 92 240sx gets about 29mpg on the highway and it's completely gutted, and when I'm driving around town I hit boost a lot so my mileage looks more like 16-24 depending how I was driving that day. Overall, getting consistently better mpg than the factory rated specs makes me happy...I was expecting 28mpg highway.

Don't feed the...WTF?
I wouldn't sell my TL for any cost of gas. If gas gets so damn expensive I can't fill my tank - it's time to think of other options (and a different car won't cut it).
It sucks, yeah - but in 20 years, do you think I'm not gonna bitch about how it costs me $300 to fill up my prius?

Gas is a necessity of getting around. Only time I would stop driving was if I lost my both my arms and legs to some freak accident (knock on wood).
Besides ... I don't think I'd ever go back to an 'economy' car. Wife and I have steady jobs, in high demand ... so we won't ever be out of work. I can write my car off as a business expense, anyways ...

i'm getting 22mpg mixed driving.
when i was in cali about a week ago to do something, i've got a rental 08 sonata 4 cylinder. it ran 22 also. it went up to 23 after 8 hours of driving to vegas.
it's fairly good compared some of the new cars.
i like my car and i'm keeping it til it dies!!

I'm spending $600 a month on gas right now and it hurts (paying $4.10-15 a gallon). I've adjusted my driving habits a bit and I'm getting 400+ miles to a tank now...which isn't that bad. My fiance's Subaru LGT does about the same - 4 cyc turbo.
The only reason I really want to sell is I'm fast approaching 110K and I'm afraid of blowing a transmission shortly thereafter. Otherwise the car is stilll in awesome shape and I drive it into the ground (which, I probably will since the resale on it is shit now!!)

MPGs with the TLS
I had a 2007 TLS and driving at cruising speeds on the GSP I got 34 MPG with the Cruise Control on. I had the manufacturer buy the 07 back because it was a lemon the 08 so far I have averaged 25 MPG. Basically all cars get the same MPG why change. Also I would like to know if anyone puts 87 in their cars?

That's a very good question. I'm suprised it hasn't been asked already. Man - I've been searching and searching and cannot come up with an answer.....

I am not giving up my car anytime soon I like it too much and not worth the hit on deprecation. The TL gets really good gas mileage. On the highway I get 30+ so when I pump gas I just push the 93 and then quickly look the other way and pretend im pumping 87 to make myself feel better.

Back to the topic, I do a lot of highway driving so I'm going to will the bish up with 87 and monitor gas mileage, then the next time fill her up with 89, and the next with 91. If I can find 93 I'll fill it up with that too. I'll record all driving conditions, max and average speeds of the trip, distances, fuel used, fuel cost, average air temps during each test, a/c or windows open, etc. After each test on roughly a half tank, I'll be siphoning the rest of the gas out and putting it in my accent lol.
I will do a write-up on this and post it probably in a couple weeks or so. Look for it located in this section in late may if you want to know my results. I'll be compiling all the data into a thread and put in the calculations for the overall cost of running each fuel grade for a certain number of gallons and miles. I'll post which fuel grade gave me the best mileage for the cost....not just best mileage, because If I can get slightly less mileage from 89 than 91, but it costs significantly less then it may benefit to use it instead.
I'm dong this for my own personal curiosity, and I figured it'd help out others on here that are trying to get the best bang for their buck with fuel prices nowadays. I know this topic has been covered, but I think a write-up like this would still be useful. Granted that results would vary from car to car, and owner to owner, but you'll still be able to see which fuel grade will be most efficient to run. Luckily down here in southern Arizona gas prices aren't as bad as other places. It's like 3.65-3.79 for 91.

imagine stepping on the gas and she wouldnt run as smoothly as she does....or she doesnt take off as you wish.....
TL recommends 91 fuel since the engine is made that way......my cuz bought a new honda accord back in 03 and he put 91 gas in her (over caring)......she clocked like 21-22 MPG and he called HONDA up......he asked them why am i getting low mileage......they said "engine is designed for 87 fuel...."....well he started putting 87 in there and the car clocked 27-29 MPG......
Acura engine requires premium and besides.....SUPPOSE you get 10 gallons at a time.....87 would cost you 37 bucks......93 could cost you 40.....
hardly 3$.....i rather not eat a chicken wing and put premium in my car......and if you wanna save 3 bucks.....dont buy rims n car mod stuff you did save atleast a good 3000$ which will allow you to fill in premium for atleast 5 years......

i put 93 in my tank everytime as well....and shell vpower fuel system cleaner after every oil change.....and i clock 280-300 miles every tank.....
this time around i did highway driving......was doing 90MPH all the time(i tried to race a merc cl600 doing 132 mph too LOL), shift at 2500 rpm (i have AT) and not tooo hard on the pedal.....and i got 200-220 miles to half a tank ...... i put in 2.5 gallons (to seafoam) and am at 420 miles right now......so just by doing more highway driving i got 420 miles (the light just came on) to ~ 13.5 + 2.5 gallons......which is around 27 MPG

When we bought the car I figured 30mpg would be attainable on the highway with granny driving but I didn't think over that was going to be the norm.

It usually takes about a third of a tank to go there and back with the city driving in between when we're doing a day trip there. That's usually about 6-7 gallons total in the trip. I tend to do spirited driving in the city tho most the time. so 85x2 for both way = 170miles + about 30 miles of driving around once we get there. then we're about 200 miles. 200/7 = 28.5mpg, 200/6 = 33.33mpg. These figures are mixed and I can't say exactly how much fuel we use mixed because we always fill our tank in tucson casue gas is usually at least 10 cents cheaper than sierra vista. Since a third of a tank is about 6 gallons I estimated 6-7 gallons of gas was used. So if 7 gallons was used and 28.5mpg was achieved mix driving that means that we got over 30mpg highway. I did however test this one time and we filled up right before we left about a mile away from the highway. We filled up when we got off the highway in sierra vista. we ended up using 2.615 gallons on the trip which equals roughly 32.5mpg. I figured I could get even more out of the car is I wasn't going 80-85 2/3 of the way and I went close to the 75mph speed limit.

while coming back from kansas city to st louis (234 miles)......i came in half a tank.....so i went like 234 miles(all highway and i was doing 90mph constantly) and i still had half a tank.....but the city driving killed it.......so i went like 340 in the full tank(24mpg)......where as if you notice only half tank i got 33mpg......
i think the proper way to calculate fuel eff is through the full tank from empty fill up to empty fill up.......

I never top it off. When the pump stops, i don't put any more in it, and I'm always using the same gas station in Tucson so it's pretty consistent.

I can give you the exact same result running it down to the low fuel light. Longer drives and using more of your tank will give you a much better and more accurate representation of MPG than a short one like your suggesting to half a tank. Hell i can go out drive it for 30 min and come back top it off and give you guys a hey look i got 38mpg, but thats not a good representation of actual MPG that most are looking for (they like to see how many miles per tank people are getting)

you say you cant feel the power, but you have lost it, you are also building up more deposits on your cars internals, Try running door to door with another 99, he will beat you. Also premium in the TL-P isnt as important as it is in the TL-S. But i can tell you that in my TL-P i would get about 40-60 less miles per tank with 87 than i would with 91. That to me is a waste of money.

I've thought about that many times....but in an instance of getting caught doing such a thing....I'd be pretty embarrassed. Hell you never know who's gonna come out with a shot gun...gas prices are reaching that of gold status lol.

id do it if prices got to like $10/g. just cross my fingers and hope they use 91
Can any one honestly say seafoam helped their gas mileage? im gettin about 18MPG (no foam) and tha shyt sucks. will foanin help?
