What do you guys think my car is worth?
I’m trying to gauge intrest to see what I could get out of my TL-s or one exactly like it meaning new paint wheels suspension and full 6speed swap with everything workin as close to factory as possible, let me know what you guy think it’s worth its got coilovers new paint wheel tires and all the supporting mods, seats and everything works from the 6speed swap as well https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...6f409adc5.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...99ecce073.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...f257dc036.jpeg |
somewhere in the range of $3-5k.
your mods wont attract buyers and it's only worth what the going value of it is... you could try to hold out for that one dummy who buys it north of $5k |

I see other ppl posting these cars 3-4 with auto trans completely stock and they sell just fine, why do you guys think I would only get the same ? lol
|
You asked. Just know the car is worth more to you than it is to anyone else.
Now, maybe you find a guy who will drop his pants for an old Acura, but that just seems unlikely. |

no one is willing to pay more than $5k for it. |
I agree with everything everyone here said. On a traditional market, your mods won't improve the value.
My advice to you would be that, your best bet would be to take it off of the traditional markets and start showing it at car shows, especially ones that feature Japanese imports, etc (fun factoid: the TL is actually not an import - it's exclusive to the NA market). A TL modified like this will gather significant attention at car shows. Believe me. Whether or not that translates to sales would be another thing though. I think you could list it at a car show for around $7-8000+ and have an easier time convincing buyers of its worth there. A 3.5L 6MT TL with excellent paint and in great condition should be able to fetch that much from the right buyer. If I had cash and could snag a 2g 6MT TL I'd definitely be tempted for sure. Hopefully all this doesn't deflate you. |
That paint color is disgusting /myopinion
I'd also say in the ballpark of $3K. |

Yeah you won't be able to craigslist or kbb/edmunds it for sure (and make money).
The big drawback is that the potential people who would buy it from you are very few. Increase your chances at car shows. Or you could bring it to a track meet and beat all the riced out Civics/Accords/TSXs/etc and then convince their owners that they need your TL lol. Good luck. |
marketing sells. get out there and market your car.
youtube is big with promoting and marketing cars...i'm sure if you're smart and creative, you could make a channel to show off the car and it's mods...then do the same thing for instagram and facebook. Market the fuck outta the car |

Market the fuck outta the car Dealerships sell cars on emotion - cars are a very emotional game that they play with people's minds. That's why someone will have a $2000 transmission fail and spend $35,000 to fix it by buying a new car. Makes sense, right? Connect with people on that level and you'll have no trouble selling anything for a premium. |
Depending where your located every year in PA theres Carlisle Import and Performance show in May. Lots of events, car corral and car groups come together. Perfect venue for you. If your not close to PA then look for something similar by you.

Strange that no one has asked about mileage. Mods aside, extremely low or high mileage could make a big difference...

it's a 15 year old car with a thirsty v6. Not many people are looking for this car..especially since the stigma of the Honda auto trannies plaguing this gen.(I know it has a six speed swap, but that's only working against him) as again, not many people would be looking for a six speed swap. (oh the horror stories of swapping components) if you were to list this car for higher than $4k, you will land on Jalopnik's nice price or crack pipe... (but hey!!!! that might work FOR you, as it's nationally marketing your car for you.) |
If you do sell it for around 3000 I will definitely buy it from you. I'm in Michigan but I'm 100% down to buy it.
|
some of those panels look a little bent out of shape. any front end or other damage at one point? I'd say ask $3500 and sell for $2800

Regarding your TL. I've been following your build threads and you're obviously a talented guy. Let me relate a story to you about my friend. We're both close to 60 now and back in the day, he had a thing for Chevy Corvairs. They were sh*t box cars but he liked them because they were an oddity. So fast forward 40 years, he now has a barn full of them, in various states of repair. They're not worth much at all and in some cases, he has a lot of work and $$ tied up in them. Now if these were Chevelles, Camaros, Chargers, almost any other classic car, he'd be sitting on a gold mine. But he poured his heart, soul and money into a turd car. I'm not saying that's what you did here, but take your talent and put it into a platform that will allow you to get a return on your investment, even if it's paying you for your time. A 20 year old Acura is not going to allow you to do this, no matter what kind of work or mods you put into it. In fact, there's almost no 20 year old Japanese car that will allow you to recoup anywhere close to what you've got into it. My advise for anyone with one of these cars is to get it running, drive it until the wheels fall off and part ways. Forget the coil-overs, the intake systems, headers, etc. It's a 20 year old import. They are (with the exception of the trans) a reliable car that was ahead of it's time, so fix it, drive it and move on when it pukes. Then take the money you would have spent on all the mods and invest it in a stock market index fund. Do that every month (invest the car mod budget). In 25 years, you'll be able to retire and buy whatever you want. Speaking strictly as a 60 year old guy who's going to retire any day now.

I think you guys are being somewhat unfair to MidoriTL. The car is worth much more than $3K-5K but _*ONLY*_ to the *RIGHT* buyer. The reality is that the number of potential buyers for this vehicle is indeed very small *but* the right buyer will pay for the car and the mods. People are junking their TLs and so as this model gets more rare, it gets more important to find those people. YES MidoriTL will have to market the sh*t out of the car but it will sell... eventually! |
