What to do before I go in for tranny service?
Hi guys,
Just wanted to start off and say that I love this site. I’ve been a lurker for about 6 months, and have found that the info and the people are both top notch on this site. Keep it up!
OK, the problem:
I have a 2002 TL-P with 59,000mi on it. For about the last 5K, my tranny has been slipping. Its been getting worse slowly, and is now to the point where I think its time I take it in.
1. - I’ve been holding out as long as I can because I’m hoping that maybe they will come out with an actual fix (not just a rebuilt unit that will probably last me just until I’m just over 100K, then die again). Are there any new transmissions in the works? Do I have any reason at all to wait longer, or should I get it fixed like tomorrow?
2. – Should I flush my tranny fluid before I take it in? It doesn’t look the greatest (well. . .its pretty brown), and I don’t want the dealership to have anything against me (like saying I never changed my tranny fluid, even though I do flush and fill every other engine oil change). In fact, my first instinct is to change it before I take it in, however I’m not sure as if that might smooth out everything for a little bit, and the service department will say there is nothing wrong with my transmission at the moment. Should I change it, or take it to them brown?
Thanks in advance guys,
Chad

Don't bother changing the fluid. I had the same problem, brought the car to the dealer yesterday and they found out the tranny fluid was burnt. Acura is replacing the tranny FREE OF CHARGE : . THE CAR HAS 103000 MILES extended warranty expired few weeks ago.
