+1 on the clay bar if you've never done it. It'll help with wax adhesion. Check out the Wash&Wax section of this site for more great info.

To truly remove any real defects in the clearcoat you will need to compound and polish with a machine polisher. Spiderwebbing and marring will not go away using an awful over-the-counter product like that garbage you bought. Without machine polishing those defects will remain hidden by waxes until the wax has worn away by washing.

I had to invest in the equipment, products and learning how to properly detail my car. Although it was an expensive initial cost and time investment (hours reading, watching videos and then about 16-24 hours of detailing work each spring), the results I've seen from my work are fantastic.

To maintain those results you have to take washing seriously with the two bucket, two grit guard method using sheep skin wash mitts or special wash sponges, the right car wash (Optimum products are solid) and gentle drying methods using waffle weave microfiber towels and quick detailer. It generally takes me 2-3 hours to do a proper wash, wax and trimmings.

As mentioned by another member, check out the wash & wax forum. Search for old detailing threads. I believe a member that goes by TS17 or something along those lines (name is Todd) does incredible work under his own business, Esoteric detailing.

This website will become one of your best resources if you want to move forward with serious detailing: Detailed Image Ask a Pro blog - Todd Cooperider

Yeah, gotta agree with TheMegalodon on the products and application to obtain the ultimate detailing of your car's finish. Once the finish is restored, good regular preventative cleaning will go a long way in keeping your car's appearance fresh looking. Spring and fall polishing with quality products should help the finish stay nice.
