waxing

I purchased Meguiar's Gold class wax for my TL today (never waxed it before). It comes with a sponge applicator in the box. I have a few questions:

1.) I'm wondering if I should use that sponge to apply the wax, or should I use a terry cloth towel?

2.) How should I apply the wax? (ie: circular motion or not?)

3.) How large of a section should I wax at a time?

Any other tips would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I use that same stuff. I have found it hard to use the circle sponge so instead i use a soft clothe. The end product is great, but I really have nothing to compare it too. Personally I like the stuff.

I finally waxed the TL today. I still have a few questions =)

After I applied the wax, I wiped off the excess wax using a terry cloth. Then, using a clean side of the terry cloth, I continued wiping in a circular motion until all the streaks from the wax are gone.

Is that the correct process? I'm not sure if I am supposed to wipe until all the streaks are gone (ie: if they just disappear later when the wax dries) because it seems like I'm wiping off all the wax. However, I "am" pleased with the end result. It isn't that noticeable, but I guess a "bit" more reflective.

Nah man, you're supposed to leave the streaks on. Especially if you have a Black TL. And don't forget to wax in the Sun too. http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
Ok.. J/K.

You're doing it right. You don't have to buff it that much, just enough to get rid of the streaks. Also you can tell if there is wax on it when you put the back of your hand against the paint and it feels oh so smooth.
Another suggestion is not to do the circles, they tend to cause more of the "spider web" effect. Tiny scratches you can see in the reflecting light. Use a back and forth motion that goes along the lines of the car..

Thanks for the reply!

Do you think it is worthwhile to add a second coat?

I also use the Meguiars Gold Class paste. I used the sponge, but have noticed a whitish hue left over after waxing with this on my Nighthawk black car. the wax itself is kinda a light peach color.

I have used the Gold Class paste. I didn't like it because it stopped beading water after a couple of weeks. I haven't used it since. Too much work for how long it lasts IMO.

How long does it last on your cars?

I don't notice any white hue left on the car because I have a silver TL. What other brands would you guys recommend? At Edmonds, they recommend the one I used and also Mothers Natural Formula Carnauba Wax.
