Warranty Direct on extended warranty, anyone use them?

Warranty Direct on extended warranty, anyone use them?

Any issues?

I am tossing between Acurawarranty.com and warrantydirect.com. Warrantydirect.com covers alot more, and the people seem to be nice, calling me asking me if I needed any more questions, etc. They are on Nasdaq too and are defintely a reliable company, just wondering if anyone has had issues with them?

Why not call some Acura dealers in the area and see what they say about them ?

My extended warranty is through Warranty Direct. Price wise it's about the same as the acura extended deal but I think I chose them because it was a little less restrictive on where to go to get the car repaired.

what are the prices like for extended warranty? Is it worth it? It probably definitely is for a transmission issue ^^;;

FWIW--California folks can't get an online quote from Warranty Direct at the moment due to regulatory issues with DOI...

Is it easy to claim through warrantydirect? Even with Acura Dealers??

Go with Warranty gold -- I haggled a GREAT deal out of them - plus free financing for like 9 months, free 0 deductible -- its an exclusionary plan (lists stuff NOT covered) anything not listed is covered... thats the better kind.

It also covers things that "Wear beyond the manufacturer specifications" (but not broken....) which means (as he explained)
if the car from the factory it takes 10 seconds to roll the window up and now its still working, but takes 45 seconds, thats obviously outside the original tolerance and covered.

I paid $1199.00 for the 5 year (from the date you purchase the contract, not in service date like the xtended acura warranty) or 100k miles on the odo.

My Contract No. is WG96777A, Thomas Hosie (if you decide to buy it tell them i referenced you ) I think i get something i remember them telling me cuz i have referral things at home...

I haven't had anything to claim yet but Acura dealers don't care as long as they get paid.

Ack -- sorry it took me a while to respond --- i miss the email notification I forget to check. Anyhow< i haven't heard any negative comments about w.gold...

I just added a 100,000 mile warranty through WarrantyGold for $1,048. They are very professional and I couldn't beat the price. I have a 5 year-100k Diamond Plan with zero deductible and I can take it anywhere. It is also transferable to a new owner or new vehicle and I can cancel before the 5 years and get back a pro-rated refund. There's also a $50.00 refferal program

has anybody had any good experiences with the hondawarranty.com and acurawarranty.com warranty programs? Is it truly tied in with OEM....because the prices the quoted me seemed cheaper than warranty gold..

plz help i need an extended warranty, im' out of the factory warranty by about 5000 miles and i'm extremely worried that i'm gonna get hit with the tranny bug......i just know my car does not shift smoothly....esp in city traffic and early gears....on highway its smooth....just city traffic the car doesnt shift smoothly...this shouldnt be normal right?

it is OEM - but remember - its 5 years/100k from IN SERVICE date...

so if the car was made and sold 1/1999 - then it'll be covered til 1/2004 - 100k
with warrnaty gold your covered til (say buying it today) 5/2007 100k

Warranty gold is actually a *better* warranty - its an "exclusionary" warranty (instead of a list of components covered, its a list of components NOT covered... if its not on the list its covered) It also has coverage for "outside manufacturer tolerances" i.e. - your starter hasn't gone, but it takes 35 seconds of cranking to start, whereas, a typical TL it takes 4 seconds, they'd fix it. Your window takes 35 seconds to roll up whereas a typical TL takes 7 seconds, they'd fix it.

If you get the deductible plan, i believe that if the same thing breaks twice, you only pay for the deductible once.

It includes roadside assitance, concierge, rental car coverage, etc... all those little extra goodies like Acura's original warranty. I paid $1199.... for the Diamond Bumper to Bumper with 0 deductblie, haggle it down -- if i remember correctly the Acurawarranty.com price for me was like 1050 or 1100 so it wasnt much more

I just got a quote yesterday from Warranty Gold on their 7 year/100k mile plan with a $50 deductable. The quote was $1129 for my 03 TL-S. It sounds like a great plan. The salesperson was really helpful in explaining how it works. To me it is a much better deal than the Acura warranty.

From what I was told you can go to any reputable repair facility, could be the dealer, could be anywhere else that will take payment from them.

no get it while you are still in warranty --- cheaper and less hassle and better coverage... the company looks at it as "its still under warranty, so nothing should be wrong or it would have been fixed" whereas if it were without warranty "what are they trying to get covered...."

Has anyone that has these extended warranties used them yet? My concern is that it is going to be a pain trying to find a shop that is willing to do the work under these plans for various reasons. Also, is there a lot of hassle to go through when trying to claim something under these warranties? I'm sure they say there is no problem at all when you call them before you sign up, but what if you actually made a claim?

Absolutely not. Some warranty programs won't let you join after the manufacturer's warranty has expired, and most that will let you join will make you wait between 30-90 days before making your first claim if the factory warranty has expired. See, this keeps you from waiting until something big breaks to buy it. If your tranny goes at 72,000 miles, and then you go and get an aftermarket warranty, you'd have to wait the grace period before filing a claim. And some places will even send their own mechanic out to inspect vehicles out of warranty first to see if there is any pre-existing damage, which won't be covered.

Moral of the story: If you want to keep your car for 100,000 miles and want it under warranty, buy the extended one ASAP. Also, the price goes up as your mileage goes up. I looked into one when my car had 8,000 miles on it. The plan I wanted was around $990. Now I'm at 17,000 miles and the same plan is $1170. The longer you wait, the higher the price. That's how they make their money.

Thanks for the reply. I am still a bit confused. For example, I just got my car and I have 4year/50000mile manufacture warranty. If I buy a 7year/100,000mile extended warranty now.

I suppose this extended warranty can only become useful after my manufacture warranty expires. So the extended warranty can only be really useful for 3 years/50,000 miles. So I wasted the 4 years of the extended warranty.

It all depends on the particular warranty plan. Make sure you check the fine print. Some are effective as of the in-service date of the *car*, whereas others take effect the day you buy the program. Usually this date only applies to the number of years covered, and not mileage.

Example: I bought my car in May 2001. Factory warranty will be good until May 2005 or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Acura's own extended warranty goes by *car* in-service date, so if I get their 7-year, 100,000 mile warranty, it is good until May 2008 or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Which means realistically I am paying for a 3 year, 50,000 mile extended warranty, since it doesn't kick in until the factory one expires. And since I put on about 18,000 miles a year, that would actually be more like 2 years, 50,000 miles for me. Some people think if you get the warranty with 40,000 miles, you're covered for 140,000. Not so--only to 100,000.

Some other companies offer warranties that start from the day you buy it (but mileage *always* starts from 0), so if I waited until April 2005 to buy one of these warranties (say a 7 year, 100,000 mile one), it would be good until April 2012, but still only 100,000 miles. I'd never see 2012 with the kind of mileage I drive (nor do I expect to still have the car in 2012)

The problem is, the closer to the end of the manufacturer's warranty you buy it, the more expensive it is. The main thing is how many miles you drive per year. If you only drive 5-10K miles a year, then getting "cheated" out of those extra years could be an issue. But for me, I'll get to the end of my factory warranty in just under 3 years, which means I'll reach the 100,000 sooner than any of the year limitations. For me, I need to decide how much it's worth to extend my warranty for 50,000 miles. Years won't factor in for me.

If you drive more than 17-18K a year, don't worry about the years, just look at the mileage. If you know you're definitely going to keep the car for at least 100,000 miles, then it's probably worth it to get the warranty, and if you know you're going to get it, buy it sooner than later and save some $$$$$.
