Want a new car but my current car runs great

I have been looking at a few different newer model cars (TL + IS350). I really want a new car but at the same time I know my 1999 TL (181K) runs excellent and will likely not get much $$ for it (been in my family 10 years now - two sisters and myself have driven it)

Don't want to deal with having two cars either (insurance)

I'm soon to be in the same boat.
I'm doing some research & browsing on newer stuff, but once I get the t-belt & plugs done, my TL will be back to great.
It may be 13 years old & have 212k on it, but it drives great....

Decisions, decisions.

Even though they are similar, for some reason I don't like the IS250 but love the IS350 with the rear spoiler.

Gentlemen, if ya got the fever and can afford the new car payments......I say go with it !
Help boost the economy, by george.

But hang on to your old TL for daily use, especially winter driving abuse. As far as insurance goes, a second car will not cost all that much more, if you carry only liability on it and list the new car for pleasure use.

One thing for sure, if you try to trade.....you'll be giving the TL away !

i would keep the TL around. insurance increase is not terrible. but if you are really never going to use the TL again, then sell it privately and get a few grand for a down payment on your new car.

if I honestly had to choose between a IS350 or a 2GTL..

2GTL just because i feel like there's more cabin room and the parts/labor costs of a lexus..

going from needing 4.6? qts of oil to 6.7 qts of oil and then having to only buy OEM oil filters.... yea.. stick with the 2G.. unless of course you dont mind.

thats the one thing I really miss having a 2G... I only needed to buy a 5qt jug and oil filter of my choosing... but now I need 5 qt + 1 qt..... then hyundai specific oil filter... costs more than mobil 1 oil filter...dam...

Hey man, a few bucks on oil changes is petty change. Just DIY !!!!
Then get the best products along with the satisfaction of knowing that the job was done right !

I found a great super great deal on a case of Royal Purple and a good deal on some good oil filters. It's really just a 10 min job to drain the crankcase, swap the filter, and refill the oil. When people pay others to do it I cringe. I have a buddy who drives a BMW and he goes to the dealer for EVERYTHING. 150 dollar oil change. 400 dollar battery change. I wish I could afford that type of money just for maintenance. Imagine my mods budget!!

Landscaper, mechanic, repair man... I wish I had it so easy sometimes when the shit has bad timing but I don't mind doing the work myself. Just not under pressure.

Same here; I have 242K on my '00 and do 99% of my own car work so the car is in solid shape. Sure the paint is peeling off the drivers door, but I can repaint that easily enough for a few hundred.
There isn't a thing on the car that doesn't work; have a nice bluetooth speaker phone, BlitzSafe iPhone integration, wired-in Valentine-1 - I have everything I really *need* (*want* yes, *need* no).

Stealership? I'm talking local shops that charge a standard price. Have taken multiple cars to the same place for years for same price & never had any issues.

Yea. Don't have the money to go to the stealership. Parents have volvo's near 300k all oil changes from same place.

Do you know stealership is charging you 3X for same oil?

of course its the same synthetic oils you can buy anywhere...

but they do free loaner vehicles and other things... thus the higher price
