Walmart Jacks comparison

I asked for Recommendations on jacks the other day and nobody replied...Here So I found out the hard way, but it wasn't that bad.
http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=52224

I only really saw two brands of jacks at Wally mart. MVP and Mack brands. The first time I went the MVP brand box was all beat up and there was only one left. Plus, it cost $69. So I opted for the Mack brand since it cost $39. Well you get what you pay for. Oh yah, the MVP is a 3 ton jack while the Mack one for 39 is a 2.5 ton.

Today I went back to Wally mart and I saw that they got a new shipment. So I opened one of the boxes up and the jack was REALLY heavy. I looked at the saddle and it was much better than the jack I bought. So I bought it and brought it home to compare the two. I will be keeping the MVP. Here's some pics to show why.

The first pic shows how much better the saddle is on the MVP

The height of the MVP is lower

I don't know why they would do this. the MVP is a 3 ton jack, I would think it would be taller.

another view of the side

You have to take the handle out and then slide it over this. Turning it clockwise closes the valve so you can jack something it...then you turn it counterclockwise so you can lower the car. It was kind of a pain to take out the handle and align it right on this bolt.

On the MVP, you just twist the handle.

can somebody tell me what's the pro/cons of a smaller/larger saddle? I can't see why they would make the smaller one. I'm sure there's a reason.

For Craftsmen jacks, the smaller saddle size is the regular one while they call the larger saddle the "service Jack"

That looks like a nice jack. That pin stop is definitely a nice safety feature to have. BTW, what's the lift on that jack (can't make it out)?

i would go with the larger saddle just because you can spread the lift load out a little bit more, and its safer. more area lifting

5 3/4"- 19 1/2" for the MVP. The Mack brand is 7"-21"

I compared the MVP with the Craftsmen one, and they look about the same to me. Maybe the Craftsmen one is better, but it's $30 bucks more. Percentage wise that's kind of a big difference

fsttyms1, those jacks you posted are nice, but they're in the hundreds of dollars! LOL
