Vin not under warranty need opinion whether to buy car HELP!

I found the car I've been searching for Black on Black 43K price 16, 900
but the vin is NOT under the extended warranty. Now I'm not sure what to Do.
PLease give me your opinion. This site has been an excellent help to me th epast with my CL. I'm not rich so I must be careful. If I get the car I'm getting the 36000 mile extended warranty. I'm buying from a small dealer who knows nothing of the TL problems. Thank you all for your help.

Had I known this I probably would not have bought my 03 TL-S. I thought all 03's were under the extended warranty until I found this site.

And you're not alone. I've seen many posts by 2003 owners that were surprised to find out that their cars were not covered. Many sellers are also unaware of this and they use the extended warranty as a selling point.

I try to mention it whenever people are considering the purchase of an 03 TL.

acurakar,

I would pass on that TL unless you can get a major price reduction. Say $3,000 to cover the cost of a new transmission. ;-)

Good luck with whatever you buy!

Bob

A certified Acura wont help if the tranny goes unless you also buy a separate extended warranty.

Thats not what I was told by my good friend who used to work for Acura, certified car automatically comes with extra 12k miles bumper to bumper and 100k/7 year powertrain, I know that for a fact.

That's correct. You get the remainder of the original factory warranty plus 12months/ 12k bumper to bumper. Then it is 7 years/100000 powertrain. You also get roadside assistance during the 12/12 period

Yes, there is roadside assistance, lockout assistance and other benefits.
I'm happy for the fact that I chose to go with a certified vehicle.

If you really want it see if they'll reduce the price about $1,500 and use it to buy an extended warranty.

Almost 3 years ago, I BOUGHT (I'm not relaying what someone told me) an Acura Certified '99. I got the remainder of the 50k warranty, plus the extended tranny warranty, PERIOD.

The NEW certified policy is the balance of the 7yr/100k warranty and a 12/12 LIMITED (NOT bumper to bumper) warranty which I know FOR A FACT because I went to the Acura site.

For cars still within factory new vehicle warranty: Client will receive balance of new car warranty plus an additional 12/12 warranty.

For cars out of factory new vehicle warranty: Client will receive 12/12 warranty in effect when the car is first sold as a Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle.

The 7-year/100,000 mile Powertrain Limited Warranty starts from original date of new car warranty registration

If anyone wants more details, and facts, visit the Acura site.

Sorry Mike, dont agree with you at all, and I know the stuff I say now for a fact.

When I registered my car with Acura, I was again reassured that certified vehicles come with 12k/12m BUMPER TO BUMPER, which is like brand new warranty.

The powertrain is 7/100 from the delivery date, yes, that is true.

Besides, the Acura site doesnt give ALL the info, just quick general info, but whatever man, think what you want.

It's not me you are disagreeing with, it's the Acura site. I guess the Acura site doesn't want to advertise the bumper to bumper benefit on the 12/12.

Thank you everyone. Based on your sound advice I passed on the car. The most the salesmen would offer was to discount the cost of getting a higher level warranty. I won;t give up on finding the car. Thanks everyone

Good luck in your search. While I am happy with my '99, particularly with all the mods I've made to it, if I was in the market for a TL, I wouldn't buy a second gen TL, only a 2004 or newer. The problem is, 2004s are around $25 - 27k.
