Upgrading the Bose Headunit/Sub question

Hey all,

So I'm pretty new to these forums as I just got my 2003 Acura 3.2TL Type S last week, but I have been quietly reading around. Looks like a great community I plan to be with for a while.

I have a question regarding upgrading the head unit in my car. I have tried to look around but it raised another question without answering my first problems.

I know that you need a custom fit dash kit for the head unit which I have found a Metra brand one on amazon that seems good. I know people recommend another company on here (streeteffectz I think), but I'm up in Calgary, AB, Canada and they aren't an option for me. I was wondering if anyone had used this metra kit before? (I can't post the url to the amazon kit but its Metra 95-7868B Double DIN Installation Dash Kit for 1999-2003 Acura CL/TL)

My second question is regarding the speakers/sub. I saw some people saying that their sub will not work once they have upgraded the head unit because of the resistance of the wiring (but this doesn't quite make sense to me unless they used a lower resistance wiring but anyways). Has this been a problem for anyone? I'd rather not upgrade a sub just to be able to upgrade the head unit and I'd rather know before I start the process.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Thank you.

I sell car audio on the regular, and I personally have that kit in my TL and it seem's to work just fine IMO. I haven't seen the other kit that you mentioned but wouldn't mind taking a look at in any case.

As for the sub, I had mine working, my Install Manager managed to get it working. I don't think it sounded all that great to be honest. The sub is garbage from the get go. I'd have to see if I could find the paperwork he had in what he did to get it working. I took it out and just added a single 10" in a ported box. It sounds a million times better than the factory... I amped my factory mids as well and that really brought them to life, until I swap them for some Boston Pros.

Edit: Resistance doesn't have much to do with wiring, when wiring dual voice coil set ups yes it does, but otherwise has nothing to do with wiring. In order to use the factory sub you have to trigger the factory amp and there was some other wiring that was needed in order to control the sub with an aftermarket headunit with sub control. In my case at the time it was an alpine. I'll see what I can come up with.

There is NO resistance issue. The issue is getting the sub amp its signal and to turn on. With a little custom wiring many have gotten it to work just fine.

its a matter of finding the correct wire that powers the factory sub and connecting it to your aftermarket headunits remote wire (usually blue or blue with white stripe)
