thanks for your patience...
You want the SC (Stock size pulley). You'll still get the benefit of the extra HP and at the same time be able to maintain stock RPMs for the alternator. This is crucial if you're running a powerful stereo system. The underdrive pulley will not keep the alternator RPMs high enough to produce enough power for large systems.

I think it's only a $10 difference. Think of it as a layaway fee.

Undersize & stock combo

I have been wanting to change my pullys but am stuck a little. I would like to go undersize on my crank and go stock on the rest. Would or is their an advantage to this? I was going to buy the whole stock set but didn't think I needed the crank. I kept my stock deck in my car but just changed the speakers from Bose to Polk DB series with no amp. It put out plenty of volume and sounds sweet. They are rated at 92Db so they don't need all that much power to push them then a 89 or 87 Db speaker would.
I just want to make sure I am still getting or wont lose to much of my spark. Does this combination have any advantages over the straight stock?

For performance gains as far as the engine is concerned, you want the crank pulley. If you just want looks, then I guess you'd be ok with the other pulleys by themselves. You won't gain any power by not changing the crank pulley.

the accessory pulleys (PS & ALT) are the same diameter (stock) for both the underdrive and stock size crank pulley sets. The only difference in the two kits is the crank pulley. If you're not running an amp or dont plan on it just go underdrive but otherwise go Stock

Thanks for the reply Gfaze and L's TL. I knew I wanted the crank pully for the extra HP but just like to have had the matching accessoriy pullys for looks. I just didn't want to have to buy the whole stock kit for the accessories and not use the stock pully and buy an extra undersize crank. Can you get a stock accessory set w/o crank pully?

Disregard last post from me. I am a little slow this morning. I reread L's TL reply and he already answered it before. I need to purchase the undersize set.......Duh! Sorry about the lack of attention to previous posts.

Hate to sound like a noob .....but!!! Does this mod give actual HP increase or just more electrical power for big systems? And is it made for a 03 TL-S?

The pulley actually gives about a 6-8 HP increase from what I have read. The reference in regards to stereo systems is another issue. There are 2 pulleys that are made, the stock size pulley and the underdrive pulley. The underdrive pulley (which is smaller than the stock size) supposedly gives you about a 1 HP advantage over the stock size one. If you have a powerful stereo system, you want to have the stock size pulley because the underdrive pulley will not be able to turn the alternator fast enough to consistently provide enough power for the car. The stock size one will not have this problem and it will still give you almost as much HP boost as the underdrive. The difference being about 1 maybe 2 HP, but not likely. If you don't have or don't plan to have a monster sound system, get the underdrive pulley.

get the real story www.unorthdoxracing.com
Its doesnt MAKE new hp- it `unlocks` about 8 hp by losing the 9 of 11 pounds of the crankshaft pulley- with that weight gone- the engine revs into the power band much faster
The slight `underdrive` at cruise runs the AC compressor a little slower- saving gas by less drain on engine energy.

At IDLE- if you have over 600 watts stereo- the alt wont be spinning quite fast enough to keep everything smooth- so those cars use a stock diameter lightweight main crank pulley, for same speeds of each item, but in a light- 2 pound material.

Sounds good. I want an inexensive HP gain but is it an easy mod? I heard some shops wont do it cause you need a special tool... not the regular pully tool. Has that been a problem for anyone?

Oh, and i got the JL Audio 10w7 & 500/1. The set up is monster so im wonderin if it'll need an underdrive or not. I know the thing isn;t rated at 600 watts but its capable of more than 500.

Try some import or Honda specialist shops for the pulley change. They should have the tool since it's needed to do the timing belts on most if not all Acuras, Hondas. If you're planning on upgrading your system in the future, I'd go with the stock size pulley. You'll still get the HP gains, minus 1 maybe 2 HP compared with the underdrive pulley.

Well there is a Honda pulley tool that holds the OE pulley in place so you can put a breaker bar on the pulley bolt to break it loose. Basically it's a tool that fits into the pulley and then you put a breaker bar on the end of the tool and wedge it against the lower control arm or floor if you want. Then you get another big breaker bar with a long 19mm socket and push for dear life to break that bolt loose.

What's the price difference for a stock size set of pulleys vs just the stock size crank pulley?

Let me know.

I need to make a purchase as soon as possible.

the set comes with the accessory pulleys (alternator and power steering) there the same size whether u get the underdrive or not, there also mostly for show since the crank pulley is where most of the gains are, the question u should be asking is whether to get the stock size or underdrive pulley, a good search or skimmiing through this thread should help u out
