Question Underbody Tray?

I'm wanting to keep my engine compartment cherry. My previous
vehicle was a LandRover Discovery, it had skidplates on it,
which as a side effect really kept the engine compartment cleaner.

What I'm thinking is a fiberglass or aluminum panel that
covers the engine compartment perhaps 75% from the
front to the back. This would keep road debris and most
of the splashed up stuff from getting all over everything.

It would need drain holes, and a big opening in the back, to
let air through, and any excessive water.

It could be mounted with quick release clips for oil changes
and maintenance. It might also might improve the cars
drag effieciency rating a bit.

My only concerns are that it may make the engine compartment
warmer? Also it might have a boat effect if you hit deep water.. I suppose that hitting deep water would screw you
anyways.

your concern is true, but I don't know how much would it affect the engine.

Okie, I suppose the only way to try this out is to build it..

I will use remote temperature sensor to measure temperature
of engine compartment, at idle and at cruise, then in
comparison with underbody tray on, each compared with
outside temperature..

Now I just need to go find the best type of material to
use and type of mounting to use..
