Ugly,rusty rotors on a new 03 Type S
This may be a simple question but I waxed my car today and I have a silver/03/Types S/Nav. As you all know we have large diamond like openings in our wheels(Stock) which allows you to see the rotor.
Mine are rusty already and I have 500 miles. And its not where the brake pad meets the rotor. I know alot of you have mods and I leased so I am limited to mods. Is there anything I can do without having to remove the wheel or better yet avoid bringing it to the dealer. This should go in the customer suggestion box for Acura- Use some type of preventative coating on rotors.
Thanks TLS owners!!!!!

I can't speak for your car, but I have an '03 as well, and soon after I got it I noticed the rusty rotors after a rainy day. The next day I went out driving and the rust dissappeared?!??!?! I think braking the car may help clear some of the rust?

drive around to brake off the rust on the rotor surface. This is a common thing, to have your rotors rust after a car wash or rain.
It's normal.

I guess you could paint it. That's the only solution since you said there is rust where the pads do not touch the rotor.

I've got the same problem.
I don't have rust there the pads touch but at the top "lip" of the rotor.
How can I get rid of this? I rather not have to remove each individual wheel but I'm afraid that is what I must do...
Thanks for any suggestions.

I doubt they will warp so don't count on a replacement, not a lot of people have warping problems. I didn't.
I painted that spot on my Rotora stock Rotors where the calipers don't touch. The only way to get rid of the rust on the braking surface area is to do what others said.
If you want to paint that spot, you will have to take off the wheels to get to them, but you won't have to take off the calipers to paint the rotor so that's good (you'll have to spin them).
Old Rusty Rotor after about 9000 miles:

First off, the rust on the rotor surface is due to oxidation of water, air, and the iron content in the rotors. Some of you need to know this, as I see some incorrect information around here.
Secondly, it's just a cosmetic thing. It doesn't affect the braking ability of your car. Mine is 6 months old with 7,500 miles and I'm seeing a tiny amount of rust on the rotors now. My Tahoe had rust on them, and so did the Eclipse. This is common and is unavoidable without painting it or coating it with some type of a weather-sealant.

Thanks everyone. My rotors look like Alexxx but only after 500 miles. :wow: Granted I don't know how long my car was sitting in the dealership lot before I purchased it.
Looks like I've got a project in the new future.

Nothing you can do about. We just have to live with it.
Those rotors rust up quick after a rain. The brake pad remove what they can.

The thing is, my prior cars did not have this happen (Mitsu & Nissan). I've lived in the same area of L.A. for the past 7 years so it discounts climate changes.
I'm just surprised at Acura's (Honda's) rotors - they've rusted REALLY fast.
Then again, if they warp as quickly as everyone is saying maybe that confirms they are poor quality.

Then spray a few coats of high-temperature resistant paint on the parts of the rotors that don't come in contact with the pads. That will prevent them from rusting in the future.
