Type-s guages in my 99. Plus DIY LED install

Got my type-s guages yesterday courtesty of Manejer from the VI!
They work perfectly in my 99, i only had an issue with the temp guage. the fuel worked fine.

after fixing that i decided to go a step further and LED it out. not bad for my first attempt right?

ill be making these for my atliens if they need em.

Thank you sir. it was a beoytch getting the light to be a smooth gradient. i had to make a plastic tab that sat between the temp and fuel guage.

overall it was a pretty cheap mod (unless u count my man hours) and i dont see why most people dont do it. a little soldering here, a couple of LED's there and its done./

DIY LED is actually really easy....there two diff ways most people do it, with the led bulbs, and some do it with the strip leds....

http://www.tuner-junction.com/TJForu...e-cluster.html

this DIY is really easy to understand, and power source comes from the socket...i believe most people get scared/dont know where to power it, and thats why not many do it.....they rely on plug n play which have crazy hot spots.

Legit!
I want LEDs but I'm a wuss when it comes to electrical mods..too scared to mess anything up. Biggest electrical mod for me is fog mod..that's really as far as I wanna take it too. But man that pic makes me want LEDs even more. If the PnP didn't have hot spots, I woulda done those already...
Kinda looks like yours has some hot spots but that may just be the camera's sensitivity to light

this is easy.

you would find the signal wire/ trace that goes to the tach. it works on measuring resistance as the signal voltage goes up, so does the needle.

tap into this trace with a wire and solder a voltage controlled switch when a certain voltage arises you get RED TACH FO V TAK!!!

i chose to wire it to the Windshield wiper power so that the guages turn on when my key is in the on position.

if my harness wasnt damaged i wouldve wired it into the dimmer so that they can have full light output adjustability

So your gauges are always lit up?

Can't we use the existing power and have normal function?
