Transmission Woes at 109,800 miles

My sister's 2002 TL with 109,800 (just out of warranty) started acting up. She took it to the dealer to see if she could get the transmission checked....

Yep, they said she needed a new transmission and two motor mounts. :whyme:

Lucky for her, they said they would honor the transmission warranty, but she would have to pay the transmission labor ($589 versus $3900).

To top it all off, she had her rear view mirror leak the other day. Magna is covering that. What a fun week for her.

Some forum members have reported full coverage for out-of-warranty transmission replacements. There's also a documented odometer error issue with second gen TLs and it's possible that your sister's car was actually under the 109,000 mile limit.

While paying $589 for a replacement transmission is not unreasonable, she might still want to call Acura's national Customer Care group and see if they could arrange for full coverage. I won't hurt to ask.

The good news is that Acura made some changes to the transmission in February of 2005 that may have resolved the major reliability issues.

Yeah, I just got mine replaced at 110,500 miles free of charge. However, I did have to pay for a new front motor mount which was $150 + labor. Let the dealer know about the case with the 5% innaccuracy on the odometers. Also, speak directly to the service manager not the service writer. The service writers are just looking to make money on their commission.

Mine was done free at 126,000, full coverage

Satin

Go IN PERSON and speak ~directly and only~ with the Service MANAGER
the service writers dont have authority like he/she does

Remind them of the court decision- odometer reads 5% fast so you have
less than 109 after all- more like 105- or are good to 114.5 if they want to look at the math from the other side- either way- you are still covered
do not let them BS you-
they deal with thousands of cars and cant be expected to remember everything about each model- being more concerened with selling brake jobs and fuel injection cleanings to newer cars than passing out warranty transmissions

01tl4tl 07-26-2007 10:34 AM

and since you did take it in before and they could not find- that invoice and record of the car in their system will make things easy
Tried to tell them before- now it went- no brainer- warranty

One of the reasons those with early symtoms are encouraged to take it in and document PNF
Problem Not Found

Just turned 100,000 in my 03 tl-s. First trans replaced at 49,000. Car was making a funny sound and they checked it out and replaced the trans again.

Funny thing, they also discovered that my front left strut was leaking fluid but since my milage was 100,044 the extended warrenty does NOT cover it (when I made the appt, the milage was 99,980. When I asked about the class action suit, they indicated that it is not final until August 21 - so I am waiting until then to have it replaced

So if it is NOT covered, it might be time to do the Teins
