I can't believe this. The transmission on my TL-S went out yesterday. I thought it would never happen to me. My car is only 5 1/2 month old and it has 13.8K miles on it. I don't even drive CRAZY. I am SOOOOO pissed off.

I was very skeptical when people on the TL & CL forum were having problems with the transmission on their new car but I guess I was wrong. It happen to me .

Luckly, Cerritos Acura told me that they will have transmission for my car by end of next week.

In a mean time, I will not be able to drive my car. I don't have anything to drive.

HOW WILL I GET AROUND ?

The dealer is required to give you a loaner vehivle for the time of your car being repaired.

First of all, with in last few weeks, my car was jerking once in while when it was shifting gears but I did not think much of it. I thought it was in my head and that I was paranoid but two day ago, when I was reversing my car, it would not move even though I was pressing the gas than it jerked and cars started to move. I tried this few time and it kept on doing the same thing so I was very worried. Next day (yesterday), I decide to take my car to the dealer and while I was driving, my car kept on missing gear and next thing I know, the Check Engine, VSA light came on and D (Drive Light) was blinking. After that my car would start only on 4th gear. The only reason why I now this is because when the car starts off very slowly w/o any gear change and when I was going 60mph, my RPM was at 2500 (approx). No gear changing at all.

Everyone be careful. ( I was skeptic too)

Also I am thinking about getting the extended warrenty just incase this happens after the regular warrently expires.

(sorry if I misspelled. I am a very BAD speller)

damn that sux dude, i would complain my ass off to acura...I would have a damn NSX to drive If my car was that old...jerk them around a little while, make them pay...Shyne

I would be careful about what's going on with the tranny if you can get it by the end of next week! The average waiting time these days has been about a month!! There was a national backorder and although 40 were released recently, I doubt there would be spares to go around! I would just question the dealer and make sure everything is to your satisfaction!!

Is this problem just happening to TypeS engine or are folks with regular TLs having the same problem too?

Also is it exhibiting this because alot of us have aftermarket parts(cams headers, exhaust) put in it?

It's happening to TL, TL-S, CL, and CL-S owners!! Doesn't have anything to do with aftermarket parts!! My TL-S doesn't have a CAI or headers installed and it happened! Based upon what others have described, there really doesn't seem to be a pattern!!

i heard all the cars that were built around April and May of 01 have had most of the transmissions problems...not really sure if its accurate or not but if somebody knows let me know. im getting my tl-s in the next couple of days..just waiting for it to get to the dealership..

I have read that there is a series of vin numbers that rolled of the line with contaminated transmission fluid. It is recommended that your fluid is changed to prevent that potential problem from causing your fluid to ruin your tranny.

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully you won't have to wait as long as some of us did.

I am telling you guys, this has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE WAY WE DRIVE OR WHAT MODS WE HAVE!!!!

There has to be an eventual explanation, I would really like to know.

MY TRANNY WENT LAST NIGHT TOO. im sooooo pissed off... my car is only 7 months old...... is there alot of people gettin this problem too ?

Just to put some of your minds at ease my '00 TL has 91,000 miles on it (sales rep) and the tranny has been perfect. I use SS now and then when I feel like it, and the fluid has been changed four times.

Is your a 2002 TL-S or a TL.

While there seems to be a random problem now and then with a non-2002 tranny, there are about 15 of us with 2002 cars that have had to have the trannys replaced. This is more than a random incident, I am afraid. If yours is a 2002, I will add you to the list.

I got my transmission fluid changed at 7500mi because I did not want to have same problems as the people who had the transmission problems.

*If* there is a series of VINs with contaminated tranny fluid, then Honda must know which ones, and alert certain dealers to make a limited recall. That would be a lot cheaper than replacing failed transmissions under warrentee.

You can also bet that Honda has a record of any VIN for any kind of warrentee work & is computer analyzing those records, because it is way smarter, cheaper, easier to make manufacturing corrections than field repairs. That's one of the ways a manufacturer builds a reputation for Quality.

But it's real annoying that Honda/Acura makes no statement, whatever, regarding these tranny failures. I wrote a nice, polite letter to my dealer (and a followup) on the subject, but never got any response, or even a phone call.

I called the Honda factory rep to complain about the time it took to get a new tranny. I tried to get a free or discounted extended warranty, but the dude would not budge.

I also tried to get him to talk about the tranny failures, and he avoided the subject TOTALLY. He would not even acknowledge that there were others out there with tranny problems. I brought up the fact that there were 15 2002 TL-Ss on this board alone, one (RedLined) who had 2 go bad on him, plus that there were 3 cars at my dealer waiting for trannys. He dismissed my concerns as unneccessary, and claimed that he was unaware of any widespread problem.

This guy was good. He would not even mention the details. I asked him what was wrong with my particular tranny, he said he would not know. I asked why it took 5 weeks, he did not answer. I asked about the backorder, he said there was no backorder. I asked him why other guys were getting Honda to make their car payments while they were waiting for their cars, he said they were not!!!

All he would speak about was that my dealership was going to pay for my 30,000 inspection. What a guy.....

My TLS is about 2 months old wit 2500 miles should I be expecting to have my tranny blow? damn this is wak. My dealer told me when I bought my car that if it ever needed warranty work that I would get a loaner at no extra charge. I hope they are truthful
