That's the thing about Honda/Acura trannys.... They look more like a manual transmission inside than an automatic. Having said that, they usually have very little hard parts damage (as opposed to a planetary setup).

Most of the time - it just needs a new linear solenoid and remanned torque convertor (along with a paper & rubber kit). I agree with 01tl4tl though that a 3rd party shop will remanufacture it with the current case, etc., and since the design changes in 04-05 to the replacement units it's much more attractive to get it done at the dealer. Since you're relatively close to the warranty cut-off, throw yourself on their mercy and offer to pay for parts - if they throw in labor (as an example). They just might accept the offer.

Actually - if I got the dashboard Christmas tree on the way home today - I'd probably just flush the screens inline with the linear solenoid and all of the shift solenoids (as well as the solenoids themselves) and change the fluid. Odd's are it would drive just fine if you didn't continue to drive it in dashboard christmas tree mode.

in P or N the rev limiter is supposed to cut out at 5000rpm
do I trust it to protect me from being stupid?.....
but I personally believe the SS mode is fine for playing with the shifter to be in the correct gear to exit the corner on the torqueband,
otherwise leave it in drive 5 and stay alive~

No different than relying on it in SS mode...

Spoke with Dealership Acura--he didn't flinch on a recall inquiry. Said there are none for this model and all replacements are up to date with no trans replacements done at this Dealership. FYI
