Transmission? Brake? Engine Mount?

Today I bought an Acura TL 1999.

When I test drove it, the car shook a little bit when I pressed the brakes. The seller told me it's an engine mount and brake problem.

While I was driving home on the highway, the car shook and rattled a lot, as if a tire had burst whenever I stepped on the brakes. I had to hold onto the steering wheel tightly because of the intense rattling.

What kind of problem is this? Brakes? Engine mount? Transmission?

There are no problems when accelerating, only when I press the brake pedal. No grinding noises either.

Thanks guys!

As long as it only happens when you brake, it shouldn't be anything serious.

It's probably just brakes that are overdue for rotors and pads. Not engine mount or transmission.

That sounds like the rotors are warped. I warped the factory rotors in less than 4,000 miles the last time I had them

The OEM rotors are the worst. Stup acura mechanic told me it is called 'hot spot' due to sudden braking; how such stup mechanic exists on earth with the worst lame excuse. Then, explain how a simple pair of Raybesto rotors never have hot spot problem on the same car with the same driver? At least for 100k; well beats 4k out of the oem rotors.

Thanks everyone.
I found out it is indeed a rotor problem.

A local mechanic test drove it and said it's definitely the front and rear rotor problem. He showed me how thin the rotors are. He said the last time the owner should have replaced the rotors but didn't. Since he just changed the pads, the rotors are warped.

The cheapest quote from a mechanic with a AAA discount and tax is $720. Isn't that pretty pricey for a car I bought for $2300?

^im with swoosh. I have had the brakemotive rotors and pads on for over 8,000 miles with no warping or hot spots. I have even had to use them quite a few times over 100+ mph. I've put more abuse on these brakes and they just keep on taking it.

flush the brake fluid too,,
do it before the brake work, so old fluid is removed and cant backwash--causes problems
