Trans fluid question dealer overfilled
Alright on my 2002 I have had this tranny in for 40000 km i got the fluid changed around 165 000km for a rear main seal replacment and now im at 194000km time for a change.
I drained 3L out of the trans a put three back in. Went for the 15 min drive to check level went on the highway at 60mph pulled off and instantly turned off the car.I checked on level ground and im about a good half an inch past the fill mark.
My question is now how to I drain and fill the trans correctly since i have no idea how much fluid is in their.
Do i just open it up and let what ever i can come out then add 3 quarts and take it for a drive and see where im at.

open the drain plug- let about 1/2 qt out-
you should be close then so take for test drive and recheck trans fluid level
BETWEEN the dots is what you are looking for- less than full but more than add

How did you test it? Car running or car off?

I think that when you drain, just more than 3.1qt will come out...but you can still put in 3 quarts.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of the fluid that doesn't drain is in the torque converter, which I doubt is possible to be overfilled. The overflow will most-likely drain when the plug is removed.
hypothesis, not fact.

get that reduced ASAP - over filled is really bad and fluid can cavitate/foam and lose effectivness
approx 3.2 can be drained if patient
yes 4.~qts remains inside, some is in the TQ- if you want that out you have to push new fluid in thru the 3x3 method of full fluid changeout

this is easily removed via the drain plug on trans

I've been taking a picture diary of the fluid level & condition and every reading, the fluid looks the same color & is same level.
But the tranny is definitely not as crisp as it was the first week or so after the rebuild. They're just weak period.
