Tranny rebuilt - now worse than before?

I got my tranny rebuilt at a transmission shop as I didn't want to go to the dealer, and I'm over warranty anyway. The guy said it'd be a little rough at first and to bring it back in to the shop in a couple weeks, but I'm wondering if I should go earlier. The car seems to have trouble going from 1st to 2nd - it takes a couple seconds to change sometimes, and then it's a little rough when it does change, but what's more annoying is it's hard to get the actual shifter into reverse sometimes - the car just won't allow me to do it. I figure it must just be stuck in 1st, and that's why it won't let me put it into reverse, but would there be another reason? It doesn't happen all the time, but today it took me about 30 seconds to get the car into reverse, which is a pain in the ass since you can't put it into park if you can't go past reverse (maybe turning the car off?).

anyway, what do you all think about this? Just wait it out a week? the only good thing is ended up being $1,850 rather than $4,500 - $5,000 at the dealer (and I hate the dealer).

Don't wait a week...Go back now so they have no excues...I can SOMEWHAT understand the whole 1-2 shift delay thing (Not really) But if you can'[t get the car to go into reverse then something is deffinitely not right...And my advice to you is to get some really beefed up internals on the tranny so heat doesn't toast everything so easily...

Take it back!!

Take it back. Acura will fix your issues. They have been more than accomodating with my tranny issues in the past.

I would take the car to Acura. Talk to the serivce manager and you will be able to work out a deal. They are well aware of the tranny issues and will certainly be accomodating to any bill. I would even call Acura Customer Service if I were you.

Someone in Florida I believe started a thread a while back. He had his tranny rebuilt, but with all the internals beefed up. He didn't like the dealer either, so he bought all the parts required and had a mechanic rebuild the tranny and I believe he has no problems either. I'm not sure on how much he spent, but if you intend to keep the car a while it is a thought. Good luck on the repair. By the way what shop did you go to in LaCanada?

Is this Velocity Resources you're refering to ? From what I recall, internals are made of titanium, kevlar, etc.

And like everyone else said, I'd take it back.

i got my tranny beefed up since i have a salvage title and the warranty from factory was void. the tranny shifts much faster and you can really feel the clutches grabbing under hard driving. even when driving 1/3 throttle , when the car shifts it feels like a manual because the rpm's drop of a little then u feel a subtle engagement. i love it. only thing is the tranny is leaking fluid , im going to have to bring it back, maybe something is loose.
