I guess we're not the only one's that has tranny issues and this is happening quite often with 5 speed WRX's.

Yes, the USDM 02 WRX's with 5 speeds are having serious problems. Almost entirely due to traction. Something's got to give with that power and if the wheels won't break loose, the tranny takes the hit. Some have analyzed the shattered gears and found improper heat treatment from the factory to be the problem in some cases. The STi (USDM & JDM) seems to have a fairly strong tranny though. Some people have managed 11's and 10's in the 1/4 on the stock 5 speed tranny but they're pretty much gettin high on all the clutch smoke. Next in line is the half shafts. If the tranny doesn't snap, the half shafts tend to snap when they start pushing 400 at the wheels.

shag has his pt and it's logical~
one thing we don't mention much is that AWD system do have a great power loss compare with RWD and FWD...and the engine and tranny has a shorter life too...
but every car has a shorter life under abusion anyways....i am so sure our TL will last long enough if we drive it slowly~ :p
