None over 125K? I wonder if there is a point where they probably won't fail or if its just because most owners don't have this high mileage yet? I hope it's the first

Anyways, it seems from our group poll that there is a 66% of tranny failure on these cars are between 250001-75000mi (42000km-145000km)
To think I just got a 2006 V6 Accord auto. Although at least I have a solara to fall back on which is my brother's.

TL-P 02 w/ 68k miles on it and still running fine with the original Transmi.
When change/refill the A/T fluid , is the darker the old fluid is the more wear and
overheat you have inside ????
My old 95 Legend A/T fluid does not look that dark when I did change it at 55k miles.

I just can't decide what to do about keeping my car or not. I'd love to keep it and put more mods in it but im still in college and I can't afford to drop 3k on a new tranny if this one craps out.
Does anybody know if taking it to Acura to get the diagnostic done will be a good indicator of whether its going to go bad or not? Or is it a waste of 80 bucks

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
No failures yet.....
I'm currently at 60,000 Kms and it's still working. But I think the programming or something is not right.
If I am rolling at about 30 km/h, and punch it, it will downshift, but it takes about 3 seconds. So if I actually leave my foot down, the revs go sky high (6000 plus) and then it engages the gear, I'm in for quite a bucking ride. If I move the leaver over to manually shift, all is good.
I've been told I should do a tranny fluid change / screen change or cleaning. Is there a filter in there and is this fairly difficult (meaning time wise. I'm not a bad mechanic)?
I also wonder if the failures here are related to "spirited driving" (Which I definitely do) and failing to service the tranny more often than Honda recommends? Just a question....

Mine blew this past Tuesday at 51,643.
Amazingly they were able to fix it lightening fast - they called me Thursday night to say it was ready, but I needed to wait until the next morngin morning as they needed me to bring all my keys in for reprogramming due to the ECU changout that's part of the install.
Less than three days to replace it - I'm impressed.

Everyone in our second gen TL is interested in and worried about transmission reliability. I am. I had transmissions replaced on my first TL and I’m worry about my second as well.
Now, let’s look at numbers. As I just checked, 63 members replied here about tranny problems. Per AZ statistics, we have 71,225 registered members in second generation TL forum. That gives 0.0885% of failed transmissions. Please prove me wrong, but it does not look like huge problem for Acura/Honda. I’m sure that not everyone with tranny problem replied, but…. Any ideas?

I got mine replace at 52k miles and now i'm at 61888 miles so far so good. But I do almost 80% freeway driving at I'm not sure if it has any effect at the transmission wears.
I have one of the newer kind of replacement though, hope this thing can hold up ^_^

This poll wont be accurate because different drivers have different driving habits. there should be a poll on the correlation between a driver's habit (normal, fast, Pedal to the metal, and Intial D style), and the percentage of fail tranny due to this driving habit.

99 rock on
How many people have a 99 with high milage? it seems to me that most trany problems are on the 00-up because Acura put a five speed in them at that model year. I could be wrong thought. You should add that to your poll.

Thought I would put in my repost my first post and put it in this thread. I purchased a 2002 TL-S in July 2006, I noticed a hesitation between 2nd and 3rd in D5 but in s/s it wasn't present. 500 miles later the transmission is slipping at multiple speeds and gears, D5 blinking, needed towed to dealer. 49,600 miles at the start 50100 now. Acura is replacing the tranny and loaned me a2006 tsx (nice car just needs more HP)
Will see how this turns out.
