My friends 99 tl, w/ 150,000 miles went out..anyone know of a good place in the Pasadena, Ca area that can replace it at a decent price. The couple of dealers around here he went to quoted him between $5,000 to 6,500 to replace it.

dude,
dump it at 150k. For me, any repair that will exceed 2k for my car will be the last straw. Some people like to 'drive it to the ground' however the int rates on car loans (many are now 0%) dictates that I would not want to spend more money on a car that will end up having more and more problems.
I learned this the hard way with my 86 300ZX. I kept up the dream that, "this repair will be the last one...then I will be golden" for too long. Several thousand dollars later and I ended up just donating it to the local firehouse for the tax break. *SIGH* I do miss the turbo rush in that car though...

that would be what i would do, but he wants the new tl when it comes out later this year and he wants to keep the old one as the commuter (ie, drive it till it falls apart) car. Besides, the only problem he has had is now that the tranny went out.
